What do you mean my mauve tile isn’t Mauvelous?!

We often see tiles that are tattle tales.

You know the type -- the ones that scream - "I was built in 1980 and custom!  People should love me forever"!

Often the culprit can be accent tiles -- strategically placed to bring color into the room.  Now they bossily influence the decorating scheme and to home buyers shout "change me I'm dated"!

master bath before staging consultation with Creative Concepts

A Salem Oregon home seller had this dilemma.  Their bathroom wouldn't be attractive to home buyers because of the current tile and decorating scheme.  When buyers compare this bathroom to new construction, they would think it needed an expensive face lift.  Instead of being an positive selling point, buyers will think negatively about this room.

How can you change dated tile without spending a lot of money?

Paint the tile!!

These seller didn't have the budget to replace the tile or to hire someone to epoxy the tiles to a contemporary color.  They were unwilling skeptical at first, but once they got started painting the tiles themselves they saw it was well worth the effort.

By using the correct products and techniques the tile now looks fresh and attractive and will be durable too.

Creative Concepts Home Staging and Contracting added some new art and decor ---- now this bathroom really is marvelous!

Margaret - Did you just say "mauvelous"?!!!  Wow, this bathroom transformation really is marvelous!  Love the new and improved painted tile.  It's completely changed the whole look of the room.  Well done for talking the seller into this - they will reap the benefits, for sure.

Oh Karen - I've seen houses like that too!  So often by improving some of the areas and using the correct paint pallete you can make the home sellable -- but some people are just can't see the value.

Thanks Diana -- you're right - even the vanity mirror was "customized" with mauve flowers.  The home owners couldn't believe the transformation when we accessorized the room!

Yes Sally -- I think it is MAUVELOUS!!!  LOL!  These sellers listened well -- I'm betting on a sale within the month!  Thanks for reading!

Thanks Robyn for commenting.  Tile can also be professionally epoxied - similar to bathtub refinishing.  It's an affordable alternative to tearing out tile for your sellers!

Whew Margaret, what a huge improvement!  We often recommend the painting of dated tile by professionals, but in this case your client did a great job.  It went from 1985 to the look that today's buyers love!  (I've heard however, that you should follow instructions very carefully to get that nice outcome.)

In the meantime....

Thanks for commenting Karen - these sellers understand the importance of making every inch a selling point and did a wonderful job of making sure the bathroom said "wow"!

Thanks Maureen - and you know how hard it was to persuade the sellers that this tile wasn't really stylish.  They thought it was great!  You are so right ONLY use the correct materials and with great care.  They did have to paint each tile individually so it did take several hours.

Roger - it's probably not an idea I'd recommend in an area that gets lots of wear and tear like an entry floor but for this case it worked perfectly -- thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Kathy for the feature!  The local big box stores have a product by Rustoleum called Tub and Tile refinishing kit.  This is an epoxy product and I have personally used it - I prefer the brush on rather than the aerosal.  It is a time consuming process because of the prep involved.  For large areas, I have a painter who will epoxy an entire tub surround for about $200.  Hope this helps!

Hi Margaret--What I love about great stagers is their creativity.  Here you have taken the bathroom and given it a current look without a lot of cost and effort.  The sellers ma have had a bit of work to do but they will realize that in their selling price.  The whole room now works and is a great selling feature of the home instead of a costly update for a buyer.

Hi Margaret - Buyers will not even know how little was done to make these changes, which otherwise would likely have prevented a sale.  It looks so very up-to-date.  Thanks for sharing about the product - we will also be recommending.
