At mealtime welcome guests in the formal dining room; entertain in the same space where Highland Park's leading influencers have served up unforgettable dinner and conversation. The kitchen at 1894 Lake Avenue needs to be seen to be believed. Professional grade appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator and two separate Sub-Zero beverage drawers, two Bosch dishwashers, double oversized sinks, a trash compactor, a six burner Viking range with griddle. The countertops are luxurious Calcutta granite and the massive island is a baker's dream. Custom cabinetry marks the transition from the kitchen to a spacious and sunny family room that overlooks the beautiful yard and opens onto a deck. The first floor powder room will wow guests with its intricate tilework and elegant finishes.

Head upstairs via your choice of two staircases to the second floor, which houses three of this home's seven bedrooms and a bonus room. The enormous master suite faces the lake and maintains the home's original character with its own fireplace. It boasts two large closets. The huge luxury bathroom features spectacular tilework, a new claw foot soaking tub, oversized shower and massive double vanity with generous storage. A bonus room off the master can serve as a wonderful office, sitting room, or sun room, whatever the new owners envision. A second floor laundry room is the ultimate in convenience. An underground sprinkler system nurtures the newly planted landscaping which includes rose bushes, and exterior up lighting makes a dramatic impression after dark. The driveway leads to a two car garage, and the large yard features a paver patio and abundant green space.

This home is truly amazing! Its aesthetic appeal is matched by its fabulous location. New owners will enjoy Lake breezes, walking to town and the train from this showcase residence. This home has just been listed and is being offered at $1,995,000.00

Historical overview of 1894 Lake Avenue:

Built in 1875, a few years after the founding of Highland Park, this property went up just as the town was taking form. It has been the home to public figures, philanthropists, and influencers. In the early 1870s, minister, family man, and Highland Park founding father George Lawson Wrenn purchased land and built his home at 1894 Lake Avenue. The home was built in the Queen Anne style, the most elaborate and iconic version of Victorian architecture. In 1909 the home was purchased by Eugene and Gertrude Andrews, daughter of decorated Civil War hero Leverett Mansfield Kelley. In 1919 the Andrews sold the house to Walter H. Baldwin, a community leader. Baldwin and his circle recognized the need for a local hospital, and Baldwin raised funds then managed the construction and organization of Highland Park Hospital, serving as the first president of the Highland Park Hospital Association.
