Hats

Today I was on a Walk Through Staging Consultation with my Staging expert Sandra MonteMayor who is a Latina women and often is called out to translate for Realtors we at All In One Staging & Redesign do work for that don't speak Spanish.

As we were talking to this mexican family about how they needed to do a lot of decluttering as well as tone down the red and green walls they had thought out the house I heard the woman say, this will just not feel like our home anymore.

Sandra our Stager in a very caring voice said to the woman, I understand what you are feeling, you spent 12 wonderful years here and made everything personalized to your taste. But you have to understand Home is where you hand your hat. You need to sell this place so you can find your new home to make your own again.

Sandra Montemayor also said to her, Please you must consider this a house now something that must be sold. A house that when Staged correctly will bring you more money to find your next wonderful Home. After some time this nice lady started to understand she would have to Break all that ties her from selling the house. we need to neutralize the walls and bring all the pictures down so potential clients pay more attention to the space for sale, then all the distractions that might make them not look past your decor and let them imagine their furniture in the house.

Well after spending some time explaining and writing down what needed to be done, the lady thanked us for explaining in a kind way that what we were telling her to do would only help her sell her house. so she and her husband can hang their hat in their new HOME.

Bravo.   Exactly what should have been said to the sellers,  in a kind and professional way.   It sounds like the client "got it" and hopefully will welcome the changes in order to help sell the house.    Clients have to disconnect and I know it is difficult for some.

Connie~ Thank you for you kind words. We really had to explain our self and what we were going to do would only benefit them. It's nice to have a partner who is truly genuine when she talks, she don't in any way try to sell you on anything you don't want to do. Just explain what the out come can be. Thank you again

Vicky~ we certainly will do our best to educate everyone we can. Thank you

Best Wishes

Hi Brian-

Somewhere I heard the phrase "When you are selling, you are no longer dwelling." Wish I knew who to credit for that, because it sums up the emotional disconnect that is required to fascilitate the sale. Your example is a great one of how to sensitively communicate this to the homeowner/seller.
