There are presents to be bought, decorations to be hung, cookies to be baked. Who has time to buy or sell a home during the holidays? If you’re trying to sell your home right now, you may be inclined to take a “break” during this holiday season. Pick things back up in January.
But if you do, you’ll probably be making a mistake. Why? Here are a couple of reasons:
- You’re already fussing over how your house looks for company – decorating, picking up, and making sure everything’s clean. How much extra work would it be to keep the house tidy for prospective buyers?
- There’s no time like the holidays to make people think of “home.” Now’s the best time, actually, to help buyers picture themselves making your house their home – the quickest way to a sale. If your decorations are tasteful and not overly religious (in case prospective buyers don’t share your faith) the holidays may give you a selling advantage over other times of year.
- More people take time off of work during the holidays than any other time of year. So prospective buyers may actually be more able to look at houses now than in January. And couples are more likely to look together during the holiday season, making your selling process more efficient.
- Some buyers simply don’t have a choice in when they move. Target prospective buyers with inflexible moving dates during the holidays and you’ll have an advantage over sellers who take their homes off the market this month.
If you do sign a contract to sell your home during the holiday season, there’s no reason you have to start packing just as most families are sitting down for their holiday feast. If your buyer can be flexible, you can schedule your closing for after the holidays.
Your real estate agent should be able to take care of the details so that you don’t have to worry about selling your home during the busy holiday season.
