Kids' Activities in Circle C Ranch

One of our favorite things about living in Circle C Ranch is the range of activities for kids. Let me use this weekend as an example.  Our youngest two kids, Lukas and Sophia, attend Kiker Elementary, which is in Circle C Ranch on LaCrosse between Mo-Pac and Escarpment.  Kiker is one of the exemplary schools that services families that live in Park Place, Wildflower Park, Circle C West, and a few other communities in Circle C Ranch. On Friday the student body decided to hold a movie night in the school cafeteria to raise money for an orphanage.  See, right there is another thing to love – how the families in Circle C Ranch try to teach their kids the value of giving back.

Anyway, our younger kids wanted to attend the movie, so we trekked up to the school with our blankets, pillows, and a few dollars for concessions.  Immediately, both kids found friends to sit with on the floor, and I found myself sitting next to another mom I knew.  Looking around the room, I recognized many other parents from the classroom or the neighborhood and it felt good that we are living in a neighborhood where so many people would spend their Friday night letting the kids have their movie night together.  Circle C Ranch also has movie nights in the summer, only these are outdoors in the park next to the swim center.

Speaking of swimming, our middle child, Benton, joined the Circle C Ranch swim team last season.  He has been swimming competitively for about 6 months now, and Saturday morning was his second meet ever.  The first one was up in Round Rock and he didn’t want anyone from the family to come (did I mention he is 13?) but since this one was at his team’s home pool right here in Circle C Ranch, we were able to convince him to allow us to come and see him swim this time.  And the great news is that he took first place in the 100 backstroke!  Coach Hayley, a former Olympian and gold medalist, she has been a great influence on the swimmers to push themselves physically and be good sports.

But it isn’t just younger kids that are busy with things to do this weekend.  Our oldest child, Kegan, is playing disc golf right now at the Metropolitan Park right here in Circle C Ranch.  In addition to soccer fields, running trails, a dog walking area, a baseball field, and a playscape, this park has an 18 hole disc golf course that is super challenging to play.  It is so nice for the older kids to be able to ride their bikes or walk down to this area, meet some friends, and then play a round of disc golf in the fresh air.  It’s a nice change from video games!

I’ll wind up this post by noting that it isn’t all play for kids in Circle C Ranch.  Both of our older kids have part time jobs in the nearby shops.  Kegan waits tables at Blue Bamboo in Escarpment Village and Honor works at Austin Scoops, the ice cream shop this weekend as well.  As parents, we were glad to see both kids find part time jobs so close to home, with local businesses that we support by living right here in Circle C Ranch.
