I, of course, would love to get the latest and greatest of the engineering related software with the lowest cost possible. 

We have all seen the advertisements about software purchasing online (OEM and more).  Has anyone actually purchased software in this manner and I would like to know if it actually worked.  I could use some software without even violating software agreements if I had it, but I don't want my computer messed up.

I purchase software online all the time.  I make sure that's it's from a reputable link and research it first, and I've never had a problem. Can't speak for engineering software, but if you do your homework it should be fine.
