All week I've been blogging about great places to visit in the San Antonio - Austin, Texas area. Tomorrow I'll be hitting the San Antonio Zoo for the 20th time or so as it's a family favorite and my nieces and sister in law will be here. By the way, as a zoo connoisseur, SA's zoo is one of the best zoos in the country! Monday I ate at La Tuna Grill - San Antonio, Texas. Yesterday I was in Austin and ate at a great Mexican restaurant El Patio Mexican Restaurant - Austin, Texas. I also stopped by a neat little candy factory that I've always wanted to visit......

With a sign like this, why wouldn't you want to pay them a special visit? At first I thought they were just a novelty candy store, not a real chocolatier. But after speaking to the family I learned that yes, they are the original Lammes Candies and that giant building behind them is the factory and corporate office.

They had everything that you would imagine a Texas chocolate factory to have: chocolate covered pecans, chocolate bunnies as big as me (at 5' that's not saying much I guess!), turtles, Texas Long Horn shaped candies, and even habenaro chocolates. (For you non-pepper eating people, habeneros are the hottest pepper on the earth.) I found it rather amusing yet I don't' take the challenge.

I stuck to the basics of what I know I love - Truffles. I had Amaretto with dark chocolate, chocolate covered organge peels, and my kids had a few turltes and pralined chocolates themselves. In a way that's a true quality test given I've eaten many a truffles in my day. They were good, but that chocolate covered orange peel was THE BOMB!

I also learned they do gift packages and ship anywhere in the world that you want to send a care package. The next time you're looking for something very Texan, or like us, have some Univesity of Texas Long horn family members who are burnt orange year around, you might want to check out their website.
