27 Comments on Enjoy a Spring Staycation on Maryland's Eastern Shore -
Maryland offers so many great "staycation" opportunities. Living in Solomons, I'm a bit partial to Southern Maryland, but I have spent a lot of time on the Eastern Shore and in Western Maryland. Maryland offers a lot of variety and is a great mid-atlantic opportunity for those traveling on the East Coast.
That sounds fantastic - I love staycations, and Maryland certainly as many great ones coming up!
Thanks for the information. Friends of mine have a place on the Eastern Shore and it's always nice going over the Bay Bridge into a whole different world! Sounds like the weather will be pretty spring-like back east for the St. Patrick's weekend too - enjoy!
Emily, I don't know a lot about Southern Maryland, but I do LOVE the Eastern Shore. Maybe that's why I started with that part of Maryland. ('Guess I'll be learning about Southern Maryland soon, when I do a post on that area of the state.)
Alan, I had no idea before I saw it on the Ocean City website. Click on the link to learn more. Only problem, I think you have to take your own horse. LOL.
Susan, I look forward to learning more about Western Maryland, when I get to that part of this series. And, as I said to Emily, I just don't know much about Southern Maryland either.
Wayne and Jean, you're right, Maryland is close to so many things. From my front door, I'm within 3 hours of Williamsburg VA and Philadelphia PA, not to mention 2 hours to Kings Dominion in Virginia, Ocean City MD, and an hour of DC and Baltimore. Good to sometimes remind ourselves about all these benefits.
I remember my Bethany Beach vacation with great fondness--my four kids had a great time--the Atlantic is much warmer than the Pacific Ocean we deal with now.
Margaret, you certainly have plenty to do for a Staycation there in Maryland!
Norma, Bethany is a great family vacation area, but I still prefer Ocean City. I guess it goes back to all those childhood vacations.
Connie, this only touches the surface... I just ran out of time to add more attractions and events. LOL.
Sounds like fun Margaret!
I have a friend that lives on the Eastern Shore - has an Art Studio in St. Michaels. I am going to visit her in September and will send her your post in the meantime. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, how I would love to. Yours is an area of the country I've always wanted to explore, but haven't gotten around to visiting yet (and won't be able to any time soon). Great localism post, though, with lots of good info.
Gretchen
WE are long overdue to visit St. Michaels ! Your post gives us a lot of great options !
I hope I have an opportunity to visit one day not in the too distant future! In the meantime, I enjoy your posts about the area.
I love the term staycation. I think there will be many people implementing this vacation concept this summer. It looks like you have a lot of wonderful choices in your area.
Staycations are a great way to relax and save money too. If you're fairly close by, you're still available for emergencies which can relieve some of the stress when we go far away on vacations. Great idea for a break without going too far.
Margaret, Staycation...what a great term ~ Looks like there's plenty to do on Maryland's Eastern Shore...Enjoy it all!
Hi Margaret.... great localism for you and a sounds like a great place to visit for me. So inviting... great post!
My family used to own a property at Shady Side and we went every summer. It was great fun! I have a lot of fond memories. I love the Eastern Shore!
Erica - I've alread got Pork in the Park on my calendar!
Joy - I haven't been there in years. Time for another visit, so you'll have to email her shop info to me.
Gretchen - We do have a lot to do around here. So lucky!
Michael - I'm looing forward to visiting there myself.
Joan - Ditto! I'm intrigued by New Hampshire, as well.
Sharon - It's not original... It's just one of the many things I've learned on Activerain.
Doug, we could take a day trip every week of the year and never repeat to the same destination. Just never have time. One of the disadvantages of being a real estate agent.
Larry and Sheila - 'Headed over there myself tonight for my grandson's high school play.
Jay - I love it, too. That may be where we decide to retire.
It's amazing just how much we can find to do right in our own backyards, Margaret. Your suggestions for activities should keep people busy, educate them, get their hearts beating, and minds transquil. Not bad with only a tank of gas and familiar "hotel" accommodations ...
