Localism.com photo uploads - update

By
Real Estate Technology with ActiveRain

This is an update to the post Upload regional photos to Localism.com and earn points!

Based on member comments we made a couple of quick changes to the photo upload capability on the consumer portal Localism.com

  1. Photos are now being automatically resized to a maximum of 800x600 upon upload, since full size pictures were being uploaded straight from digital cameras.
  2. We added the ability for members to delete photos they've uploaded.  There is now a login button where ActiveRain members can log in in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  Uploading a photo which requires a username and password will also automatically log you into localism.   Once logged in you won't have to supply this username and password again.  We decided to keep things really simple so if you want to move or change the description on a photo, delete and reupload it.
  3. Added a simple page that shows the last 100 photo's uploaded at http://localism.com/recent-photos
  4. On the main state/county/city pages changed it to thumbnails of 6 photos show instead of 10 and also randomized which photos show.
  5. Update: If logged in members now should see ALL cities and counties not just ones that have content.

Will be automating the point rewards for contributing photos on Monday.  We had about 600 photos contributed since we put up the feature on Friday.

Update: There are a number of photos on Localism that are of the same image from a different angle. In addition some photos are duplicated for different levels, city, county, state, etc.

We will change how photos are displayed, but to all those members who've duplicated photos, or used very similar ones, I would appreciate it if you would remove them.  Each photo submitted by you should be unique.

I appreciate this, and I'm sorry I wasn't initially clearer.

    Thank you,

    Caleb

I noticed that you whacked some pictures out of the Long Beach area and was happy to see that.  I recognised many of those pictures from a variety of local sites.  You are all over this.

Matt - If we have photos for a specific master planned community - such as www.Verrado.com in Buckeye, will we be able to create the community name and load up to it - or do we need to post to Buckeye for now and perhaps later we'll be able to edit to the community level?

Looks like we're getting quite a variety of photos. I think it would be great if viewers could comment on photos or easily contact the submitter if they have questions.

Will there be a way to flag photos (miscategorized, inappropriate, etc)? There still seem to be many at the State level that should really be posted in the respective City.

Matt - Would it be helpful to supply a list of communities / Master Planned Communities to you - along with which city they are actually in?  Tony

Tony: No edit right now just delete and re-upload.  We'll have an interface for you to add the communities yourself fairly soon, so there is no need to send us a list.  Also working on the ability to agents to list themselves in multiple communties/cities/counties

Matt, Some of the towns/cities listed in Pasco County on Localism are actually in Hernando County. If you like I can provide you with the corrections.

Ok I am finding myself with my camera in the front seat of my car now & no longer kept in my bag!  I have already uploaded 5 pix to localism.com.  It's addicting!  4 under Yardley, PA and one under Bucks County PA.  More to come of course...

Matt, maybe I'm missing something, but I uploaded a photo last night, and no picture is showing. I noted a couple more also. Does that mean that it has to be checked out by AR before it displays?

Can we put a copyright content line on the photos? Or a watermark?  And what is the copyright policy at localism.com?  If these are original photos we have taken - what rights are we giving away when we upload the photo?

I am not listed as a NEIGHBOR at all in Kenosha, even though some of the first pictures, communities added and blog posts were added by me. How can I fix this?

    Bo:

i suggest getting an image editing program such as photoshop or paint shop pro and learn how to watermark your pictures. Another option is to watermark using adobe acrobat reader and then exporting as a jpeg.  There's many other ways but if you want to protect your photos then you must place some sort of watermark and put a disclaimer somewhere illustrating your intentions for copyright infringment violators.

Can we get a Localism expert to reiterate some of these things above and update us as to their relevancy being that the original post was made December, 06.

    Thanks.
