A new law affecting Florida property owners with swimming pools went into effect today.
The new pool law does require that all new pool pumps, with 1 horsepower or greater motor, must have the ability of operating at 2 or more speeds.
Most pool owners, currently, have 1 horsepower motors with only one speed, operated by a single timer box. With the new pool law in effect, the majority of home owners with pools will need to replace timers and/or pumps that fail with new pool equipment that meets the new pool code requirements of operating at 2 or more speeds.
Ultimately, this will be a benefit to the homeowner due to the fact that the monthly energy savings for operating the new pool pump systems is quite considerable. The new pool equipment, according to the experts, uses between 60 - 90% less electricity! The initial cost to replace the old pool pump and/or timer equipment, with those kind of savings, should soon be recouped by the savings on a homeowner's electric bill.
