This just burns me up

Heating systems are an important part of the home, yet there are some configurations that just "burn" me up.  The first photo shows a forced air system for heating and air conditioning.

Burned Insulation

As you can see, the duct insulation has been burned by the flue pipe.

Sufficient clearance between a flue pipe and combustible material needs to be maintained.

This safety hazard is often caught by the local city/town inspector as well as the Natural Gas supply company.

Gas InspectMany times the local city/town inspection tag will not be anywhere in sight.  In this case, the inspection tag is also attached to the burnt insulation.

Too bad the address on the inspection tag is not the address of the house.  There were many other safety concerns with the installation of this natural gas furnace.

The fact sheet for Massachusetts Fires in 2010 lists heating systems as the cause for 12% of the fires.

Poor workmanship is one thing, but a bogus inspection tag just "burns me up".
