Diet Coke, Sushi and a Home Inspection - Meridian, Idaho

Meridian, Idaho is Pepsi nation.  Today I was waiting for an inspection to get over, my daughter was taking a nap in the car, so I was driving around town.  I had a craving for a diet coke and I couldn't find one anywhere!  4 different fast food restaurants in the same block - all of them Pepsi.  What?  Blimpie's Sandwiches. Pepsi Products. Wendy's. Pepsi.  Subway. Pepsi again.  Taco Time. Yep. Pepsi.   And, to throw it in my face even more, as I left the area I noticed a big Pepsi sign over our Meridian Speedway sign.

Finally, I drove further downtown and Jack in the Box saved me.  Coke Products!  Hooray!  I got my fix.  And then attended the end of my inspection.  All in all the afternoon turned out okay.

So, if you are a Pepsi fan, Meridian is the place to be.  If not, at least you now know that the Jack in the Box on Main & Fairview can do the trick.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention - I found this on my Diet Coke hunt.....

Shige Sushi Meridian Idaho

Shige, located in downtown Boise on 8th St. is, in my opinion, the best sushi restaurant in town.  I didn't know that they were opening one in Meridian.  This is certainly a place I plan to frequent.  If you are local, check it out. I bet they have Coke products.  If not I'll just have a Sake instead.

Kasey & John, Good to know!  We may have to bring our Coke and Diet Cokes with us!  If we ever get up that way!

The weird thing is that Meridian has a Swire Coca Cola here!  I'm sure that not all of Meridian is Pepsi nation - but where I was they certainly had the market.  It was rather funny to me as I drove through drive thrus - the only thing I wanted was a fountain drink, and I kept on going if it was Pepsi....Oh well :-)

Don't you know that artificial sugar is bad for you? But as for Coke and Pepsi, I'm with you. I don't drink pop very often, but when I do, it's Coke.

Be careful for sake's sake!  Sneaky little drink :)  Nice way to sneak in a 1/2 dozen different local business names too :)

I would have gone for the Diet Pepsi substitute.  No need to be inflexible in Meridian.

Enjoy the weather, with your camera in hand.

Hi Kasey, $1 Sushi boats??? OMG, I'll be right there! I love Sushi! (and a Diet Coke every while and then) Just reminded me that I'll have to blog about a new one in my town - they don't have a website!!

How funny, Kasey.  I am neither a Pepsi or Coke fan, though I have drunk both. I do prefer Dr. Pepper.  Good to know about the sushi boats. This is one great hyperlocal post!

Oh Marte, I do know.  I do.  The dumb thing is I never drank any kind of pop very often until I went on a diet to lose my baby weight.  Diet Coke became a freebie on the diet, one of the few bad things that came from my new eating habits.  I'll kick the addition here eventually...

Thanks BLiz.  Slowly but surely, I'm progressing :-)

Roy, I actually usually do just go with the Pepsi, even though I prefer Coke.  However, I was having a particular craving for Coke and the Pepsi wouldn't have sufficed this time.  Plus I had time because my daughter was sleeping in the car and I was driving around waiting for an inspection to get over and my daughter to wake up.

Yep, Andrea, I'm going to have to check out the $1 sushi.  Shige is a great place to eat, so I'm looking forward to the new location.  I love sushi too!

Sherry, you are in luck then.  All the places, whether Coke or Pepsi have Dr. Pepper, so you never are without :-)  I actually used to prefer only Dr. Pepper too on the rare occasion that I drank Pop.  See my comment above to Marte about why and how my new vice...

Kasey, that cracked me up. I own Pot Belly Deli & Grill, well, my wife does, I just do the paperwork. lol And over the years, this town was "Coke" nation. Coke was everywhere, and it still is the dominant fountain in the Valley, probably in Idaho. Nagel beverage (Pepsi) sold out and now they are so much cheaper than Coke, everyone is switching. We still serve Coke, but it has been VERY tempting to switch. But we dont want to start a riot at the courthouse. But EVERY YEAR, we get the same old letter from coke, We must increase syrup prices because we are coke and we rule. LOL, thanks for the Sushi tip, hope they stay, Meridian is a tough customer to new places.

David, thanks for th insight.  Very interesting on the Pepsi being so much cheaper thing and Coke sending you a letter raising syrup prices because they are Coke and they rule.  Haha.  I guess as a business person that does make you have to think about what choice you want to make.  I'll check out Pot Belly Deli & Grill next time I am hungry and want a soft drink too.
