I've learned to cook.  Oh, I used to cook a hundred years ago when I had hungry children at home.  I evenUsing The Right Tools canned my own veggies and made my own jams.  Everything I cooked and baked was made from scratch; only the best for my family!  Well, I haven't had kiddos in the house for some time.  So, I figure if someone else has already gone to the trouble of making something and all I have to do is pick it up, take it home and eat it, yeah!  I no longer have a domestic bone in my body.  I think I broke it with all the aforementioned cooking, baking and canning.  I even kill air fern!

I was doing a little Christmas shopping last week and found a wonderful gadget - a crock pot!  I can get up in the morning, throw in some meat, veggies and seasonings and by dinnertime I have a feast!  It even tastes good!  It's the best thing since prepared mashed potatoes in a 32 oz. tub!

This whole experience got me to thinking - with the right tools, anything is possible.  As a Virtual Assistant, I have the latest and greatest computer, fax, phone system, laser printer, software programs, etc., etc., etc.  Without these things, my job would be absolutely exhausting.  I would spend most of my time trying to improvise and make do - something I'm just not good at.  My clientele would certainly notice the difference, too.

It's important to know how to use these tools.  I've taken many classes and am certified in many programs.  So, now what?  Cooking classes?

10 Comments on The Right Tools - In My Case A Crock Pot

Pamela, I'm so sorry to hear you broke your domestic bone.  I know just how painful that can be!

A crock pot is indeed a wonderful invention...I use mine a lot.

I'm all into the idea of cooking a hot meal, but canning vege's and making jam?  That's just too much work, for me.  I guess if I lived back East, or another cold wintery region, I might reconsider.  Nothing better than a jar of green beans when it's snowing outside.

Pamela ~ I love my crock pot.  Now, it's just a matter of getting up early enough before leaving for work to get all those ingredients in!

I love my crockpot too, especially this time of year.  In the summer it stays put away.

Great post showing how you have all the necessary equipment to be a great VA.  I'll bet you got much better equipment than I do for real estate.

...next you buy a steamer.  Makes perfect rice every time.  Just put in the rice and water, set the dial and walk away.  Also makes wonderful sweet corn on the cob.

You brought back memories with your post about canning and baking and all that cooking.  Thankfully, the kiddos have grown up and are good cooks themselves.  But, you're right about the crock-pot, they are one great invention.

Or, you could just become so wildly successful in your business that you could easliy afford to hire a full time chef! Here's is wishing that you do so that you could if you wanted to do so. Heck, here's hoping we all do that well.

I just received a crock pot as a wedding gift.....I am going to have to try throwing a meal together like you have done.  (Just learning to cook)

If I lived in Austin, I would never cook! Such wonderful places to eat out- I would simply never want to stay in the kitchen.

Great analogy. Even with the right tools, there are some that just don't get it.

I think we have a crock pot...it's at the back of the cabinet somewhere. If it doesn't go in the microwave for 3 minutes, or I can't pick it up, it doesn't get eaten :) What a world we live in! Everything is instant.
