Beautifully written and so much graciousness. With all that you said, makes me wonder why so many people from other lands were welcome in the 1900's but aren't now. I always considered America a melting pot - your ancestors, my ancestors, etc. But now our world wants to be selective as to who they let in. It didn't matter that your kin was unknowledgeable or illiterate. And according to our upcoming candidates running for government offices - that isn't acceptable. Money welcome, educated only... Not real Christian is it?
Suzanne,
Thanks for your gracious comment...!!! Lest you were lead to believe that Immigration laws weren't enforced back then, my Grandmother, who never learned how to speak English, never became a Naturalized citizen. Up until the year she died, we had to 'register' her annually as a 'legal alien'...!!!
Thanks, Fran
I know my father came her for a better life. My uncle said the same thing. As a first generation all the old folks all were looking for, "abtter life" And of course they also were told the streets were paved with gold !! Nice post Fran good topic
Charlie,
Still, they must have had a lot of guts, or else they may have felt they had nothing to lose...!!! In either case, thank God for you and me they did what they did...!!!
Thanks, Fran
I love the historical perspective you put into this coming to America post Fran and thinking about our blessings. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Fran, Definitely God is making some statement. He always is, it's just up to us to dicipher them everyday. Congratulations and Happy St. Patrick's Day to you.
