I just received word from my brokers that all the remaining Alliance Title Company branches in CA and NV are shutting their doors.  I haven't found any more info other than that, so just curious as to what, besides our current market situation on the west coast, the background is on this company going out of business.  I have worked with them a lot in the past and hope that those who are affected are able to find a new company that will welcome them.  Does anyone have any articles or information on any of this?

Hi Adam,

I found this on Alliance Title.  http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2007/12/12/3160220.htm .  Pretty scary and pretty sad at the same time. I too have used Alliance quite often.  Here in Turlock the only Title company office left is Stewart Title and First American.  We have seen Chicago, Fidelity, North American all close offices here. I dont think we have seen the last of it either.

Alliance Title is gone.  Kaput.  Out of business.  Rumor has it paychecks are bouncing.  Twelve days before Christmas.  Pretty pathetic.

it is true!! all of Alliance and Financial Title in California and Nevada are done.  This is all due to lack of fiscal responsibility and huge egos!!!!

San Diego was laid off today 12-13-07.  We received notice the night before. My paycheck did not bounce but I and no one received their vacation and commission pay.  We have contacted Mercury Co. and they claim Alliance Title did not have enough money to pay employees vacation hours.  I had about 20 hours of vacation due =(

the only advise HR at Alliance Title gave was to file a claim with the labor board.  I am sure we will never see that money.

Jim - Yes, they closed most of the escrows I've had since being in real estate.  Its very unfortunate.  Thank you for the link.

Wine - It seems like it couldn't have come at a worse time of year.  Hopefully other companies can absorb some of the officers and staff, but its not a great time, especially in the CA market.

San Diego - Very sorry to hear that this is happening to you and your co-workers, especially during this time of year. Good luck to you, hopefully another competitor can welcome you into their works soon.  Best wishes.

What goes around comes around...people who left the solid companies for more $$$ are now experiencing the consequences...loyalty always pays off.

there's a lot of us unemployed right now and it is extremely difficult not only during holiday season but for all those months that we don't have an income. I've used up every last dime and can barely afford food & gasoline.

Financial Title Company is still operating.  They have been out of Nevada for quite some time now, as well as Southern California.  Alliance is of course, done.  Wage claims can be filed, also, 30-day penalties can apply as well.  Accrued vacation must be paid, and I believe in the end it will come out of Mercury's pocket.

Dave, loyalty has nothing to do with anything.  There are no solid companies.  Every company has been majorly cutting back.  This is corporate America. Loyalty is rarely observed and even less so in tough times.  There's no heart in it.  Its about money.  They cut who ever they can to save the company.

The team at Alliance San Diego had it comming to them! For being in the profession they should have seem the market change but they were too busy partying and thinking they were invincable. They were a lot of lying, cheeting fools. Many of the senior management were cheeting on their wives and significant others. Welcome to the real world, remenber that the combo meals you'll be serving come with fries and a soda!

Anyone know how I can get the 6K they owe me?I was shocked but if they just closed there doors seems like there should be some place or someone that we could talk to, besides a lawyer.Hope that someone out there is having a Happy New Year.

I think Alliance was associated with mercury company which was bought by Fidelity National in 2008. Now I think Chicago title and fidelity title are associates. You might try contacting a local chicago/fidelity office.
