When tragedy touches our lives, none of us knows exactly how we will handle it.  We certainly never think a tragic accident will leave us unable to do what we take for granted everyday - giving our children a hug, tying our shoes, bathing, eating a bowl of cereal or driving to the grocery store or to work.

For those of you who have been selling real estate for any length of time here in the Fredericksburg area, you may know a very good family friend (and I am proud to say, my neighbor), Al Sharp.  Al deals primarily in commercial real estate and is affiliated with Johnson and Glazebrook in Fredericksburg.

Back in July, 2007, Al suffered a traumatic injury from a boating accident and suffered nerve damage which has left him a quadriplegic.  While the doctors (and most importantly, his family and friends) feel confident he will walk again, it will take a tremendous amount of effort, resources and intense physical rehabilitation.  To help Al during this incredibly difficult time, friends have gathered to show their support and encouragement at a benefit at:

Brock's Riverside Grille in Downtown Fredericksburg on Wednesday, December 19th, from 6pm to 9pm.

If you are in the area, please stop by and share your good wishes with the family.  Donations will be graciously accepted and sincerely appreciated.  For more information, contact me directly at 540-371-6157 or email at Irene@IreneMoralesWard.com

"This holiday season, Altimate Medical, maker of the EasyStand standing frame, decided to do something a little different. In lieu of a printed holiday card, they decided to make a special donation to the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA). For each unique click on the webpage www.easystand.com/holiday, Altimate Medical will donate $1 to NSCIA. On December 31, 2007, the company will issue a check to the NSCIA for up to $3000. EasyStand has reached out to customers and friends with fun, unique holiday cards in the past. But when evaluating the cost for a mailed paper greeting to our customer base, they realized the impact the money could have if used in another way. We started our holiday charity drive during the 2006 holiday season, giving $2500 to Wheels for Humanity http://www.wheelsforhumanity.org/. This year, they increased their goal to $3000, added a fun holiday video starring our employees, and chose the NSCIA as the recipient."

What a horrible thing to happen, especially doing something fun like boating!  Just so you know, I clicked and sent a link to several friends.

Marlene - That is SO nice of you to do.  I know Al is feeling everyone's prayers.  I am one of his "outpatient" PT assistants so I get to see tremendous improvement in just one short session with him.  His spirits are high and I know he's going to improve.  He just has to work hard for a long time and never give up!

What a hard thing. How great it is to have friends like you though. One of the things I like about your blogs and you, the kindness and willingness to help others. I will click too. :.)

Done. I just wanted to tell you to pass on to Al to keep going. It is amazing what the body can do! 4 yrs ago I was told the spinal disease I have would land me in a wheel chair on I.V pain meds, no cure. Today I have almost no pain(a bit, but not like it was) and I walk and do most things I always did. I never ever believed them, I always knew in my heart I would make it. I kept going no matter what, with tears streaming I walked with a walker up and down the street after my surgery. God gives Grace daily...we just have to do the work to pick it up! Best of everything to Al.

Merry Christmas

Vanessa - What an incredibly strong woman you are!  I will certainly pass on your wishes and comment so that Al can see the power of positive thinking and God's Grace.  You have been blessed with strength, courage, and God's love.  I know Al will follow suit.  He needs to hear more stories like yours.  May you have a very blessed Christmas enjoying life and love with your family.
