My father in law, Harvey Jackson, has been in the Cross Cancer Institute here in Edmonton for 6 weeks and is undergoing treatment for lymphoma.
Last Sunday we were told his organs were shutting down because the mass was blocking blood flow to his kidney and bowel and he had a few days left.
His birthday was yesterday and we celebrated the fact that his mass had shrunk enough for his organs to begin to function again and he sat in his chair for a few hours, getting out of bed for the first time in weeks! A celebratory rye and diet pepsi was a welcome addition to the juice and milk he was used to!
Friday I sat beside Cody Osbourne with Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and he was telling me about a fun way to raise funds and awareness about Cancer.
And so the team the Cancer Crushers was born!

Kris, thanx! It was a rough week, but we, doctors and staff included, have been amazed at the difference Saturday to Saturday has been. Last Saturday we weren't sure he'd make it to this Saturday, so his b-day was extra special!
