Mark Your Calendars-The Space Shuttle Discovery Is Heading To Northern Virginia

By
Real Estate Agent with Integrity Real Estate Group

Space Shuttle on 747Though the space shuttle Discovery has flown it's last mission in space it has one more flight to make.  The Discovery will be landing at Washington-Dulles airport piggy-backing on a specially designed 747.

The specific time for landing is not known though NASA and the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center Websites will be updated with arrival time.  In anticipation of a mid-morning arrival the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center located off or Route 28 will open the parking lots at 8 AM.  There is no doubt that the parking lot will be completely filled early.

The Discovery will be part of new permanent exhibit at the space center.  It is estimated that it will be a year before it goes on display as it will need to be cleaned and prepared for it's new spot.  The Discovery will take the place of the Enterprise which will be moving to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York.

For anyone who has been a fan of the space program leave home early on April 17th and pick your spot.  This will be a once in a lifetime event worth watching.

This will be a wonderful addition to the Smithsonian.  I have spent many a day wandering through the Smithsonian with my kids.  My husband loves the Air & Space Museum/Center.  It's probably changed a lot since I was there.

The shuttle hitching a ride piggy back flew over my house when I was a kid.  Pretty cool.

So cool.  That is so neat of you to share this historic event.  Wish I lived there!  I used to live in Huntsville, AL where Marshall Space Flight Center is located, along with more NASA related businesses.  It was awe inspiring to drive the freeway and see the huge space shuttles on display there.  My daughter attended space camp in the 6th grade and she found it really fun and interesting as kids from around the country compete in "missions."  Thanks for the trip back in time!
