It's almost that time of year...that's right, Girl Scout Cookie Time!
My troop, Troop 846 from North Springs High School in Sandy Springs, Georgia, annually sends Girl Scout Cookies to our troops stationed overseas, to give them a taste of home.
The 2008 Girl Scout Cookie Program starts January 18 - and so does Troop 846's Cookies for the Troops Program!
Troop 846 sent 600 boxes of cookies overseas to soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany and North Africa. With postage and packaging funded through the generous donations of their cookie clients and families, soldiers known as "Cookie Santas" received cases of boxes of Girl Scout cookies to distribute among their fellow soldiers.
In 2007, they sent a whopping 1500 boxes to soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We're hoping for an even bigger year in 2008!!
HOW CAN I HELP, you ask? Well, we can't sell any cookies yet, but please keep us in mind. I'll send out a reminder and instructions once cookie sales officially begin. Then you can donate toward cookies or postage...or both!
And if you know of a soldier stationed overseas who would love to get a taste of home in the form of Girl Scout Cookies, we'll also be collecting addresses!
Keep an eye out for a post in January - and if you'd like a personal email reminder at that time, email me now and I'll put you on our list!
