Old Person Furniture building in Searcy AR soon to have a facelift.....just sold.....

Paula, my friend who did the photography project for Girl Scouts back in the 40's, photographed what we now call the Person building.  Persons/Quattlebaums have owned it for many years.  It is about a block or two from the court square so it is considered downtown.

I'm going to depend on my friends from Arkansas to give me more of the history of this building and what the sign above the corner entry door said.  I find it interesting that there were quite a few corner doors.  Was there a reason for that?  This building as you can see, is largely unchanged, and may be for sale right now.

Those two paragraphs were part of my blog several months ago (actually in 2008!).  I said it might be for sale right now.  And now I can say that it is SOLD.  It has been bought by Salon Bliss & Boutique who plans to move their business to that location.  It is undergoing a major renovation right now and I was invited to go inside and explore the old building last week.  I found a few old calendars with the Searcy police force pictured on them.  I need to put them on my blog.

For now, however, let's review the old building from the 40's and the way it is now just before changing.

At last!

We used to live a couple doors down from that building and I'd always peer inside to see all the weird junk that's built up over the years. Old pianos, furniture, stuff like that -- all covered in a layer of dust. I'm glad it's been bought by someone who will use the building instead of knock it down.

I always liked the ancient double doors just off the edge of the present-day picture and obscured by a car in the older picture. They seemed like they should lead into a ruined fortress, perhaps, rather than an abandoned department store.

Thank you Ms. Barbara!  It was great to meet you the other day.  I will continue to update my blog as progression occurs.  For anyone else reading this I'm looking for more information on this building perhaps what it was originally built for and what uses it had before the Quattlebaums!

Luke, you have made me curious about the double doors.  I think I'll put up the picture that I took just a few weeks ago.  I walked through those doors and all the chipping paint made me realize why we have lead paint disclosures in our business.

Paige Norman, new owner of the old Quattlebaum/Person building, thanks for the tour.  It was huge upstairs and I was so happy to know that you are going to use it to help downtown Searcy remain alive and vital.

Mary, we'll have to see if Ivan's daughter, Sherry Person, tells us more about the history.
