Duke Gardens

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens are one of the Triangle's natural wonders, and on Saturday, March 31st, they share their bounty with the rest of us.

The annual Spring Plant Sale is an event of note in the local gardening community.  The Gardens and other specialized plant vendors will offer an array of plants appropriate for this region, including Duke Gardens plants, annuals, perennials, woody trees and shrubs. And you can get free gardening advice from the horticulture experts who will be on hand.

Friends of Duke Gardens receive an invitation to the preview sale on March 30th.  For the general public, the hours will be 8:00 am to 12:00 noon on the 31st.

For more information about Duke Gardens, including directions, visit their website at http://www.hr.duke.edu/dukegardens.

Dianne,

What a great photo and I love the two contrasting colors of purple and yellow...what a gorgeous setting.  It is a good thing I don't live in Raleigh, or I would be buying like crazy...A

Dianne,

Did I just see in the news that the Duke Gardens were vandalized?  I hope that does not affect the sale.

Hi Kathy.  Yes, that was in today's paper.  Pots and artwork were smashed -- so sad.  Since a scheduled wedding was delayed only an hour, I'm sure the plant sale will go on as scheduled.

Dianne- I had to stop by when I saw those beautiful flowers.  Very sorry to see Kathy's comment about the vandalism.  Glad it only delayed the wedding by an hour.

Hi Kathy.  Thanks for stopping by!  I took the photo during a visit to the Gardens last May.  You can see the gazebo in the upper right.  From there, wide steps lead downward to a formal pond with water lilies and ducks.  The Duke Chapel is nearby, so I usually take visitors to both in one outing.
