I wrote a post the other day about a segment of our population that is exploited. I was not up on my soapbox then. But I'd like to get up on it now.
Look at your own hands. Like mine, I am sure they do not look like the ones depicted in this video.
These are the same hands used to caress a loved one's face or tousle the hair of a little one.
Picking 32 pounds of tomatoes for 40 cents is backbreaking work.
Let's not hide what should be disgust for an industry that allows this behind the notion that these are illegals. These are human beings picking that perfectly shaped tomato for your burger, your taco or your salad. Besides that, they are not all here illegally so let's not cast a too-broad net around it.

Maggie, I was speaking with a person that hosts events for the children of migrant workers. They took the kids to a hockey game. The intersections by the arena are manned by sheriffs to direct traffic. When they turned the corner the kids all dunked to the floor of the van to hide. What a life these families are exposed to. It's tragic.
Conditioned to hide from police, condition to always be afraid.
Maggie, you are far from a wuss! You have one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen! I agree with this statement: These are human beings picking that perfectly shaped tomato for your burger, your taco or your salad. Besides that, they are not all here illegally so let's not cast a too-broad net around it.
Who will be the first to cry about the high cost of food if something was really done about "illegals"? We ship our jobs out to countries like China and the same people who cry about illegals or migrant workers probably have a high amount of Chinese produced goods in their homes. Ahhh, they inequities!
Renee - gotta love you! Yes, the same ones who complain refuse to pay the high prices of goods made by the ILGWU because they can get clothing made in China much cheaper. It must be real hard balancing oneself on that fence! Thanks for stopping by you darling you. =)
Very moving........I spent a lot of time looking at people eyes..........the whole windows to the soul thing...........but I spend almost as much time looking at their hands, Every segment of their levels has sat in the palm of those hands................
