My Active Rain Aha ! - Why are we all here?

By

I've been checking out ActiveRain for the last couple of months really more of a lurker then a poster trying to understand what is really going on here and what it means to real estate, our businesses, and our personal lives.

I've finally had my Aha moment and many on ActiveRain have probably already had a similar Aha, but in case no one has posted this yet, I figured why the heck not post it and take credit for recognizing it (assuming I'm right about it in the first place.  If not this post will probably die off into obscurity. )

First a little background on me.

Prior to my real estate career I had been involved with a number of tech companies, some that I started and others where I lent my talents.  In the late 80's and early 90's I worked in investments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds etc...).

During this period I was a frequent contributor to Prodigy, Compuserve and America Online Bulletin Boards discussing stocks and other investments.  I was pretty good at stock selection and started to get a following of people who were interested in the stock advise I had.  In fact at one point I was a contractor to America Online hosting the Sunday night investment chats in the early 90's for about a year.  During that time I developed a number of long term relationships with people I met online.  Many of whom I have staying contact with years later.

That being said, what ultimately came out of that experience I think is starting to take ground here on ActiveRain and that is ActiveRain is primarily about developing relationships.  Sometime in the not to distant future we will see posts of ActiveRain participants who have met started enterprises, got married, got funded for some great idea posted here, but at the end of the day it's really about the relationships that are formed here professional to professional.

A few years ago I came to a somewhat religious paradigm shift in my thinking about business and real estate, and I think this also applies to ActiveRain and Social Networking in general.  As much as people give lip service to the topic of making money and enhancing thier bottom line is its all about getting into relationships with other people whom you like and respect.

Here's my quick tagline for ActiveRain.  "ActiveRain is a conduit for Relationships".

That's actually my personal tagline in business and real estate.  "Business is a conduit for Relationships."

Real Estate is a Conduit for Relationships.

Without trying to sound to Sunday morning, however isn't that the real program?  Once you are above the poverty level financially the things you do are relationship driven.
