It Is NOT My Job To Get You Off The Fence And Push You Into Buying A Home...

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Christiansen Group Realty (260)704-0843

I was reading a thread in a real estate Facebook group the other day.  A handful of Realtors® were discussing different techiques of how they "get buyers off the fence."

"I tell them that with interest rates as low as they are, NOW is the time to buy.  If they don't, they are really missing out!!" said Realtor® #1.

"I tell them that buying a home is cheaper than renting!!" said Realtor® #2.

"I tell them that with inventory being so high and prices being so low, they would be an idiot not to buy now!!"  said Realtor® #3.

As true as these thing are, this conversation had me scratching my head a bit.  Here's my take:

If you are considering buying a home in the Fort Wayne area, we would love to help you.  If you are considering buying, but aren't quite sure (aka sitting on the fence), that's okay too.  We would love to have a conversation with you about the current market, your situation, and what is best for you.  We can answer your questions and ease your concerns ...  but we aren't going to try to push you into buying a home so we can make a sale.   If you aren't ready, you aren't ready.  It's that simple.

If you aren't ready to buy a home yet, IT'S OKAY!

It's a big decision.  It's not like buying a pizza or a set of tires for your car.  If you have any questions about the home buying process, our contact info is below.

If they aren't mentally ready to make the purchase, it may be an uphill battle.

I have to agree with you on this one.  All we can do is give them all the information , they have to make the decision.

I'm with you....it's not about pushing anyone into anything they are not ready for.....but also knowing the signs that they are ready. Fine line, and true salespeople know the difference.

I agree and strongly feel that "pushing" could/can come to haunt you.  I know that when folks get "pushy" with me I will move on to find the info I am looking for.  It's best to give them proper advice on how to become ready to purchase when they are ready.

Jared - You're right.  After educating a fence sitter of the facts of low interest etc. and they're not ready... then their not ready and we certainly should not try to shove being a homeowner down their throat.  Just sit back and when the time is right is "their" life.  They will contact us.

Correct! Nobody likes a pushy salesman.  Or saleswoman, whatever the case may be.  Don't be pushy!

I agree. Its the Realtors job to help the buyer (or seller) understand the process and address any concerns. But ultimately its up to the buyer/seller on when the 'right' time is. My right time may not be the same right time as someone else. Just like I like a certain style home which others may not enjoy. Its all about comfort. Be there to address questions and offer assistance, but don't PUSH them into a decision.

Your approach is by far the best one!  If I get a "hard sell" from a Realtor or anyone else, I see it as too pushy and run in the opposite direction.

Thank you all for stopping by.  I think we all can agree, pushy is not good!
