Now that we’ve qualified you for a loan, it’s time to go out and find your new home! Buying real estate in Texas is an exciting but often overwhelming process. This can be especially true if you are a first time home buyer in Texas. It may be a good idea to hire a real estate agent who knows your local market and can help you through the buying process.

Finding a qualified agent can assure a smooth and problem–free transaction. Do you know anyone who has purchased a home recently? Getting a referral from a satisfied customer is often the best way to find a good agent. You can also contact your local board of REALTORS® for recommendations and/or consult your Texas mortgage professional as they may have worked with a few great agents over the years.

It is important to interview your agent to make sure he or she understands your needs and is willing to meet them. Here are just a few questions you can ask your perspective real estate agent to get some good background information:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • What sort of licensing and training do you have?
  • How many buyers and sellers have you had in the last year?
  • How many of your buyers and sellers have actually bought or sold a home?

Also, you may want to ask your prospective agent about market conditions and mortgage financing. It is crucial for an agent to be well educated on all aspects of the home buying process. You may also ask for references to see if the agent’s past clients were happy with the service they received.

Finding the right agent to help you buy your home can relieve a lot of stress on an already stressful process. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need help finding a good agent in your area.

John - Buyers definitely need to find an agent who works in their area of interest and who know the area.

Thats Funny Paul. Well, if you didnt find one on Activerain, I know a few more. :-)

Thanks Jared.

Michelle - I dont there are a lot of agents that try to work outside their area, but there are some. They cant be as helpful as someone that knows the ins and outs of an area.

Love your list of questions, John.  Many times folks pick the first person who answers the phone without asking questinos but a litlte background on people goes a long way!

Kristin - People do tend to go with whom ever calls them first. That may not be a bad choice, but you should establish WHY they are a good choice instead of just based on who called first.
