Where to Start

By
Real Estate Agent with EXIT West Realty

If you have never bought a home before it can be pretty intimidating. Looking at homes, comparing mortgages and insurance. Trying to decide what you really want in a home, etc...

I would advise you to start by looking for an agent to represent your interests. Ask your friends and family if they have a REALTOR® they would refer. Then make an appointment to meet them and see if you feel comfortable with that agent. If not look some more.

Hiring an agent to represent you can save you time and frustration. You can make hundreds of calls trying to find out about homes for sale and to schedule appointments with multiple agents to see properties, or you can make one call to YOUR agent and let them do the scheduling.

It's also important to get started with the mortgage qualification process early on. Make sure you are able to make a move once you find the home you want. It also makes sense to know what you are qualified for before you look at and fall in love with a home you can't afford. Everything you look at after that will pale in comparison and make the whole process seem pointless.

Your agent should be able to assist you in finding a mortgage professional to work with as well.

The process doen't have to be overwhelming if you do a little homework upfront and assemble a team to work for you.

Happy Hunting!

Great advice for those getting into the market.  It's always best to lean on a professional, especially when the cost is nothing to the buyer.
