On advantage living in South Jersey is the access we have to major music and comedy concerts and entertainment in Atlantic City. Often, you may have several choices in a week or even several on the same day. This goes on all year long.
For example, my son and I decided to attend the recent Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall, formerly the original Convention Hall, that has been upgraded for modern performances.
We had an easy drive down to Atlantic City (under an hour) and parked in one of the many high-rise parking facilities, in our case Caesar's. Then walked inside and had a choice of several places to eat -- within Caesar's or in many of the other nearby casinos. We decided on a buffet. Upon eating all we could handle, we walked a few blocks down the boardwalk along the ocean to the Hall and joined over 10,000 others in the audience for a non-stop, almost 3 hour high-powered sound and site event that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
After the concert we walked around a little taking in a few of the sights. Then we were able to quickly return home and be in bed by a reasonable time, so that we could wake up fresh for work the next day.
Two major trade publications, Billboard and Venues Today, released their year-end reviews on 12/20/06 reporting Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall as the highest grossing mid-sized arena in the World. It offers a variety of events from music concerts, to dance, to boxing and sporting championships, to even indoor auto racing.

Note: It also works out approximately the same (with regard to traveling time) for concerts in the Philadelphia City area, although you need to be more aware of the traffic conditions you will be facing and allow appropriate time to reach your destination, based on those conditions. The return home is usually not a issue.
