Empty Nesters! Part I ....................................                                      from the desk of Gert Baldwin

The term comes from our fine feathered friends; eggs hatch and become offsprings that eventually fly away to go their own way and pursue life.

We can relate to this story with our own family; it takes a little longer, but never the less the path is the same.

Now that you have become an Empty Nester, you are left with too much empty space to care for; the good news is we can solve the problem.

Both architects and builders have gone back to the drawing board for new and innovative design features to accommodate to-days empty nesters.

Let's face it we have always had Empty Nesters, nothing new about that; but in today's society we are dealing with a different mindse . So, what has changed? In thinking back to our parent's life style in their later years, today we live longer because we have learned to focus and preserve the quality of life.

The empty nester is standing in the middle of a life changing opportunity. From experience, they are looking for homes with the WOW factor with exciting and comfortable new architectural features in a desired location closer to family.                                               Easy Living!

The new home styles are especially designed for comfort, ease of living, lots of natural lighting and enough square footage, about 1800 to 2400 sq.ft. for comfortable living. The most important feature is everything is on the main floor; basically a one bedroom house, with additional rooms for the occasional guests and storage at the lower level. This means less floor space to clean, decorate, maintain, insure and of course less utility costs.

Gert, what an informative post.  Today's empty nesters do have a different lifestyle than yesterday's empty nesters and you make some great points.
