Active Rain Does it AGAIN...Want to know WHO'S READING??

If there are ANY doubters out there just as to who is reading ActiveRain, I wanted to share this with you.  We have our own Long Island Newspaper and it's widely read....I was fortunate to get a "behind the scenes" tour of it one day and wrote about it on ActiveRain:

An inside look at NEWSDAY, Long Island's Newspaper since 1940 Carole Provenzale Owner, Feng Shui Long Island

While I don't read the paper, I do catch up on the Real Estate section.  I love to read about different opinions on our market, current prices and I love to see what homes are going for on Long Island.  Tonight while catching up on some reading, I came across this from Newsday, dated December 7th written by staff writer Lisa May.

It advises you to go to a particular post from Activerain.  Though not in our area, they felt the information in it was important to share with their readers.  Here's a direct partial quote from the article:

"This blog details the work involved for an Open House in a market (Las Vegas) that had a 9-10 month inventory.  The blogger, an agent, advises that a public open house requires meticulous planning and promotion - what every seller should expect from an open house.  So in a buyer's market who benefits more  --  agent or client?"

Effective open house strategies

Unfortunately, our very own John Novak is not mentioned by name; but he IS being read, far and wide. And I started to wonder.  How many other "tidbits" of information that we provide are "out there" for everyone to look up and read?  While sometimes we are fortunate enough to hear about it (I got a mention in The New York Times from a COMMENT), just how often are we quoted and may not even know about it?  The scope of this site continues to amaze me.  It shows we are not only being READ, but our opinions, posts and comments are valued.

Kudo's to John for an outstanding post.  And it makes you wonder just exactly where YOUR post or comment might end up.   We are VALUED for the content we provide...let's provide the ABSOLUTE BEST!

Carole - this is a very nice heads up, and a very cool  thing for John. Yes, we're being found, and that should increase as time goes on.

cheers

Carole ~ That is great for John (although it would have been nice if they mentioned him by name).  Newsday had picked up a release that I had submitted to one of the online Long Island sites, so yes, just like us they are reading away!  How nice of you to post it - does he know?

Carole, that is wonderful for John. Yes, "they" are reading and apparently far and wide. Did you tell John?

Who knows? The Shadow knows

There are unending comments and blogs here on AR regarding unknown/unexpected feedback from their input here.  Even blogs for "Members only" so be careful how you speak.

Carole~ while it's great to be found by the newspapers, I'm surprised that they are not giving full credit to the source? I'm sure John is LV will be thrilled to be found by the paper.

Hi Carole - Thanks for letting me know about this, it's a great surprise! The post they reference was written over a year ago, when I had only been blogging for two weeks. Guess it shows that we never really know what is going to catch someone's attention (or when).

Carole- Yes, our content is being read far and wide. People are reading our blogs, if they are good, from all over and we don't know who they all are because they read and do not comment. But you can see from your views and clicks on your statistics that many more people read than comment. That tells you they are reading! Go John, that was great! I love it! Katerina

Carole,

Nice of you to bring up John's outstanding blogging. AR is making a good name for itself out there in the consumer land regarding real estate and mortgage lending and other related fields. The quotes should always included the writer's name, though.

Carole - It is a very nice tribute to John, would have been nice if they would have mentioned the source, but, nonetheless, was such a compliment!  Thank you for bringing it to our (and John's) attention.

Carole... this is great. But I hate when they don't mention the person by name. Why?  Anyhoo... this is a success story and you might want to put that in this group also.  Active Rain Block Party

Hi Carole..I guess just keep on blogging the real estate news, and best for all of us to keep it informative and positive. The Press puts in enough negative stuff, so we might just as well put in lots of our own positive spin, especially success stories like here!

Cheers, have a great holiday season!

Very good reminder, Carole. It's very surprising to see the places that AR articles or mentions show up....I'm a believer in the power of the rain.

Carole--How nice of you to notify John of his success! It is interesting who is reading. I have been contacted by three newspapers, one local to run one of my posts, one from Hawaii to expand on a comment on one of Sally Cheeseman's posts and one from the NY Times regarding a story they were doing on acreage. Real people read our blogs...You are so nice to share John's success with us all!

Gary, Thanks for coming by and thank you for your comment.  I was thrilled to see this--and the scope of AR.  I did email John right after I posted because I wasn't sure if he knew.

Loretta, With everything you're doing, you just may get famous in NYC anyway :)  Or one of your wonderful posts will get picked up by the NY Times...

Kathy, I have submitted things to Newday and was told there was a particular way to go about it---a summery, outline and why you think people would want to read it.  I'm curious if you did that?

Missy, I was thrilled to see it.  Thinking ahead, people are leaving Long Island in droves I'm afraid to say.  It is too expensive.  How wonderful to think they have their choice of Realtors from AR in the areas they are looking!

David, Excellent advice.  I am careful what I write in both posts and comments and everyone should be mindful of how and what they write.

Lisa, I can only think the clip was small and things often get "cut."  It may be why they didn't credit him.  But it had a link directly to that post.

John, I'm really happy for you, I was hoping you'd catch the email sooner rather then later :)  I know the post was older but think of the people relocating...and that a Long Island paper is writing about the market from all over.  The paper was dated Dec. 7th and you just never know what might come of it....

Joan, It's wonderful!  So are your posts--maybe you'll be next!  Or maybe you've already been quoted somewhere and don't even know it!

Katerina, It was certainly exciting to find as well as the fact that they are reading out of state.  Which means so are consumers---I can't think of a better way for someone to find a qualified Realtor, Stager, Mortgage Person, Home Inspector or anything else they need for real estate then all the wonderful people on this site!  We're all right here and it's important how you portray yourself.

Esko, Thank you for your comment.  It was a short section and may have been edited; goodness knows I have been misquoted often which  makes my words taken totally out of context.  But there is still wonderful exposure here, for John and all of us!

Candy, It was a great find, I'm so glad I was catching up last night and thrilled to let John know about it!

Jeff, Thank you for your comment and suggestion.  I have to make a show today at 2:00 but can post it in that group when I get back tonight!  And am happy that you let me know.  I have seen people come and go on this site and think it's a shame...

Fred, I think we can be our own press and you're right, put a positive spin on this.  Last night was a Suze Orman show speaking again of what a wonderful time it is to buy a home with some terrific deals out there!

Georgina, It was especially interesting since they were reporting on Las Vegas---from Long Island.  They are reading about different areas and that's great news for ALL of us. Thank you for your comment.

Jo, I know you are, people have found us both from posts in the Rain.  This is a wonderful indication that they are not just reading locally.

Lysa, It IS cool.  My mother gets the paper and saves the real estate section for me...which Newsday has expanded over the last 6 months.  What a treat to find AR AND John!

Kris, You are so right, we can offset the negativity of the press and present ourselves in a really good, professional light.  It's an excellent reminder to all of us.

Matthew, I too am going to review some old posts....this one was a year ago.  I want to make certain there is nothing I wrote that is not what the public or anyone should be reading!

Teri, Look at the success you are having, I am thrilled for you!  The power of the press is amazing---and you never know where it's going to lead!  And this shows that you could have been written about and not even know it!

Carol, Neither do I.  I believe people should think before hitting "submit."  There are thousands of people from all over reading what we write and we should all take that into account.

Carole, how nice of you to spotlight John!  This is the kind of news we all need to hear.  It gives me the push to keep doing what I'm doing and know that someone IS reading.

Carole, there used to be something in the days gone by known as a "clipping" service that solved the problem you mention.

In this day of computers, electronic information and speed, I cannot believe there is no way to advise bloggers (writers) when they are being referenced.

Hi Carole,
I read somewhere, some time that the hits on our AR post after the first week was mostly public.  I don't know if that is true but I do know that some of my localism posts have gotten a lot of hits 2-3 weeks after posting them.

Kim, You're so right, people are reading from all over; it doesn't even have to be in the same state!

Lisa, Lots of people are reading...keep posting, your posts are always wonderful and filled with the best information about your area!

Gail,It would have been nice but I was happy to see Activerain as well as John being spotlighted in Newsday.  It's under the "In The Web" section so it's quite short and I know so many things get edited...that could be it.

Sally, I was thrilled to find it.  I stopped eating to come and post it and know it's great news for John and also for ALL of us.

Kathy,You've got a deal :)  Wait...I DID get quoted from AR...from a comment under House STALKERS :)!  Probably not the best thing for a Feng Shui Consultant :)

Cynthia,I don't know but I can tell that Google picks them up almost immediately...so they must go out immediately.  I will put up a post and get a Google alert that has it in two days...and find it up high in rankings at times.  I believe it's faster then you heard.  The most calls I received was from a post "Let's Talk about Predecessor Energy" and it was only a few days...
