Out and About in Litchfield Park - Things To Do This Weekend 3/23/12

Friday March 23

Mesquite Canyon Wash Geology Hike at White Tank Park. Discover different flora and fauna of the White Tanks and learn about geology. This hike could be challenging to small children and those with physical limitations.  No dogs allowed.  Meet at Area 9, Ford Canyon Trailhead at 10am.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit the Maricopa County Parks Website.

SSScorpions at Estrella Mountain Regional Park.  Join Ranger Mark at the Nature center for some interesting facts about Arizona scorpions.  Begins at 2:00pm. There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit the Estrella Mountain Regional Park website.

3 Dogs Nights at Estrella Mountain Regional Park.  Join Dog Whisperers Mark German and Janice Wolfe for a hike along the Baseline Trail with your dog.  Before the walk, the dog Whisperers will be giving away free leashes and teaching dogs to walk properly.  Wear sturdy shoes, bring your flashlight and water for you and your dog.  Meet at the Turf Picnic Area at 4pm.  Ranger Mike will begin the hike at Gila Trailhead at 6pm.  Don't forget that you will be required to clean up after your pet!  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit www.maricopa.gov.


Saturday March 24

Spring Training in Goodyear, Glendale, Peoria and Surprise

Fireworks Night at Goodyear Ballpark, Cleveland Indians vs L.A. Angels.  Game starts at 7:05pm and will feature fireworks.  For more information visit the City of Goodyear website.

12th Annual Spring Clean-Up Day is Monday March 26th.  Litchfield Park residents can start placing their waste at curbside on Saturday.  Public Works will begin pick-up at 6:30am on March 26th.  For more information visit the City of Litchfield Park website.

Avondale Farmer's Market.  Shop for fresh, locally grown foods and hand-crafted goods at Friendship Park in Avondale every Saturday.  The market runs from 8am to 12pm.  For more information visit www.arizonafarmersmarkets.com.

Cowboy Campfire and Hayride at White Tank Park.  Join the park staff for a mechanical hayride (Ford F-150 horses, pick-up truck and wagon) for a 20 minute ride along the Waterfall Canyon Road Loop.  Rides will run from 7:30 to 9pm.  There will also be a campfire to enjoy.  Hot chocolate and hot tea will be provided, bring your marshmallows to roast.  Event is at Area 4.  There is a $6 per vehicle park entry fee.  For more information visit the White Tank Mountain Regional Park website.

Wigwam Farmer's Market, Avondale Farmer's Market

Wigwam Farmer's Market at Wigwam in Litchfield Park.  Want fresh produce but don't have time for a garden?  Check out the Wigwam Farmer's Market every Sunday.  Shop for fresh produce from local farmers as well as work from local artisans and all kinds of yummy foods on the beautiful front lawn of the Wigwam.  1st Sundays of the month include an Educated Eater Experience.  Market runs from 8:30am to 12:30 pm.  For more information visit www.wigwamresort.com.

Upcoming Events: 

Goodyear's Classic Car Show Saturday April 21, 2012.  More than 100 classic and historic cars will be on display at the Goodyear Ballpark from 10am to 3pm.  The car show is sponsored by PebbleCreek Car Club and the proceeds from the event will benefit the restoration of Goodyear's Historic Litchfield Train Depot.  There will also be model trains on display as well local high school jazz groups, a 50/50 drawing, vendors and more!  For more information visit the City of Goodyear Website.  Admission and parking is FREE.  A BBQ lunch will be available for $10.
