Picture_16 The Science of Real Estate... Hmmm...

Well, if you watched Redfin's debut on the Today Show, you know that it clearly isn't anything genius! Just simple PR and nothing more! Ok, maybe that's putting it a little harsh... But the reality is, any good Agent already knows these things. It's blatantly obvious!

One of the hi-lights from the Interview with Glenn Kelman, President & CEO of Redfin.com:

  • List your home on Craigslist.org

Duh! Marketing online is obvious!
Every Agent that cares about becoming a better Agent is well aware that online market presence is pivotal to one's success in today's market. They're not only advertising on Craigslist...they're puking their advertisements all over the world-wide web!

I agree this was just simply PR.  Like every other agent out there I post on a multitude of web sites including Craigslist.

I wish NBC would put Lenn Harley or Missy Caulk on their shows.  They'd get a different perspective entirely about what is going on AND they would get the truth.  Redfin?  C'mon.  Get regular normal everyday in-the-trenches real estate professionals on the national shows to do more than PR spin.

I love the marketing/PR aspect of real estate, and use every legitimate site I can!  Some realtors who have been in the business don't feel the need (or urgency) to use the internet, but even though I'm in my 50's, I'm a 'newbie' and in doing my homework, the internet is where it's at!  Thank you for your post.

Carolyn: nothing more than PR. They're stating the obvious if you ask me!

Kris: I'm with you there!!! Greg Swann made some interesting statements. I linked to his article in my home blog.

Susie: information on the Internet travels fast! I posted that video as a satirical look at that fact. I say good for you for being on Active Rain.

I caught the interview on NBC too.  I couldn't believe what I was hearing.  Did he really suggest that agents list a house too high so that we can get price reductions??? It was appalling.  Why would we want to waste our time and money taking an overpriced listing?  Also, every agent I know uses Craigslist and alot of other sites as well.  I felt it was misleading the public with the tease that said Find Out the Secrets of Selling a House That Agents Won't Tell You or something along those lines!

Yeah someone else had posted this and I am glad I missed this segment or I would have been pissed that morning do people honestly think that realtors are that ignorant or stupid that we dont do these things and that is the only thing involved in selling a house. NBC, the liberal network, is touting the redfin model because it lowers transactions fees in real estate. Why doesn't NBC cut its advertising fees to a minimum to help out the down trodden middle class? That goes for Google too! Liberals believe in income redistribution, so what is stopping them? It is all talk.

Warren Buffet believes in higher taxes. So, why doesn't he give the gov't an extra billion a year voluntarily?

It's a well known fact among professionals (that DOES include Realtors) that the internet is extremely important in an effective marketing effort.  This Redfin sham appeared, to me, to be a direct insult to my (our) profession and attempted to paint us all with a brush dipped in ignorance.

Every time I see that man talk it makes my blood boil.

The most disappointing part about this was that they labeled it "The Science of Real Estate" like it was something revolutionary that would completely change the industry. So far Redfin has turned out to be just a media curiosity, not even a blip on the overall market.

Classic, I saw the interview and I almost fell over laughing.  No Duh!  Must have cost him lots of money to go on national T.V and Make an ASS of Himself.  Been using craigslist for 2 years before it was hot and have pulled in about 200k just from this site.   Thanks Creg!   Thanks Ricardo Bueno

Bobbi: you said,

Find Out the Secrets of Selling a House That Agents Won't Tell You

that's the feeling you get when listening to all the hype! What I hate is that a lot of what was said was obvious! Way obvious if you ask me.  And it poorly paints a dirty picture of Real Estate Agents. As if to say, they don't know what they're doing.

Heather: I only hope that I didn't ruin your Saturday morning :(

Carol: you said,

"Every time I see that man talk it makes my blood boil."

I'm sure many people here on the network share those exact sentiments. I myself hate that they alluded to the majority as ignorant individuals who don't know how to sell homes. As if what they had to say wasn't already obvious!

John: you mean it isn't revolutionary? Aww shux... I was gonna sign up for classes too! LOL.

John Hayes: where's Captain Obvious when you need him right? What I found funny was that he alluded to using Craigslist as if it was some revolutionary marketing medium.

Anonymous: you said,

"NBC, the liberal network, is touting the redfin model because it lowers transactions fees in real estate."

I imagine they're doing so in an attempt to help the consumer. But, if you really want to be the consumer advocate, put someone real on the interview...put them in the spotlight. Put someone that is hell bent on exposing the truth. We don't need to state the obvious and though PR campaigns work, they're one-sided and they only benefit the party launching the campaign.

"It's all talk"

That's the news for ya!

Ricardo,

I totally agree, just PR for Redfin, and I think most agents understand that pricing is so crucial right now.  Also, I noticed you made a company change, "CONGRATULATIONS".

I have been out of the loop for a couple of weeks.
