Santa Paula will branch off from the County Pet Shelter on June 1st when they open their own no-kill Pet Shelter for stray dogs and cats.
This new shelter will be located at Santa Barbara and Seventh Streets. According to the Ventura County Star, by Santa Paula having their own Pet Shelter it will save the city $40,000. Santa Paula currently contracts with the county to use the Carrillo Pet Shelter for approximately $100,000/annually. This new Santa Paula Shelter will save the city approximately $60,000.
The Santa Paula shelter will be a no-kill facility. The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center, a nonprofit will run the center.
The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Group wants local communities to "own" or solve their own pet overpopulation problem and they believe this shelter located in the Santa Paula community is a step in that direction.
The group is looking for volunteers to help at the location, they will need volunteers to clean the kennels, bathe dogs, manage adoptions and they are asking for donations of leashes, cat trees, litter boxes, blankets, paper towels, bowls and other pet supplies.
The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Group is committed to minimizing the noise, so they are a good neighbor to those in close proximity.
