Or do you even HAVE a tail?
on the internet, that is . . .
A "tail" is a prominent presence on the internet so that when people search for things on Google or other search engines, they land on your site whether it be a blog site or your primary website. I've been experimenting to check the validity of the tail theory and am finding it to hold water.
I have 2 blogs - Here and at www.creatingspaces.blogspot.com . . .
A website for our real estate sales group at www.theowengroup.net (Built by www.z57.com)
Another Real Estate Sales website at www.theowengroup.biz (our "template site" from Keller Williams Realty)
Am on www.Facebook.com - www.linkedin.com - www.plaxo.com - www.skype.com
and have registered with every free Real Estate related site I have come across in the past year.
The results?
Phenomenal . . . What I experienced was that with only the blogsite on blogger.com, I only got minimal traffic UNTIL I started adding the other sites and cross-linking them . . . On that blogger site, my content is not ONLY real estate - It is also a collage of philosophical musings and personal thoughts . . . I am now getting traffic from all around the world on that site . . . people googling famous authors I have mentioned . . . all the way down to local folks googling local contractors.
What caused me to write this today is that one of my vendors (a handy man) gave me a HUGE basket of goodies in appreciation for all of the business we sent him this year. This basket had so much stuff in it, I could not imagine bringing it home so I decided to leave it on the table in our break room . . . I figured it would take not much longer than 30 minutes for our associates to consume the contents . . . and I wanted to give him credit . . . so I googled him to see if I could print his website as a "brochure" . . . He doesn't have a website . . . instead MY website popped up as the number ONE hit.
I got to thinking . . . I wondered . . . so I started googling other people I know who I might have written about somewhere in my blogs . . . Invariably, my blogsites were popping up on the first page of results. Now, I'm not certain of the direct benefit of a guy in Thailand landing on my Tennessee Real Estate Site . . . but I cannot imagine that it would hurt . . . Who knows?
I really think it is simply the same old game (Numbers game) . . . The more people that show up, the better the odds that something useful will come of it. If nothing else, I know that I have a higher degree of familiarity in some groups/demographics, and I am intrigued how the synapses seem to be spontaneously happening. There is one globally famous author who contacted me directly (by phone) to connect because his webmaster told him that he was getting a large number of hits on his site from my blog-site . . . I had read his book - Liked it - and blogged about it . . . we have become "occasional friends" talking on the phone every month or so . . .
And then I noticed that I was getting hits on my site from his . . . He had posted a link there to my blog about him as a testimonial . . .
What is it that ALWAYS works when you're trying to market yourself?
PERSISTENT (Consistent) Exposure to LOTS of people and a pure message . . .
That's all!
:-)
Best,
