In this corner, Lisa Heidel.  Weighing in with a love for shoes and a cookbook fetish, Lisa tagged a new acquaintance to find out more on her the "victim".

And in this corner, with one Meme down and who knows how many more to go, we have the victim...Sarah Eubanks, otherwise known as Meme for today!!!

  • About seven years ago, I was in a terrible roll over car accident.  While I broke the second vertebrae in my neck, our son had to be life flighted to a local children's hospital.  It was at that time that I found out I was allergic to morphine.  Boy was that bad news...being strapped down, unable to move, and needing to throw up!  Yuck...Some things you never want to do.  Breaking your neck would be one of those things.  However, it was by the Grace of God I survived and was not paralyzed.  My neurosurgeon called it a "miracle"!
  • I lost my Daddy and a true hero when I was thirty.  He was only 54 and way too young.  I hate cancer and actively campaign against any form of it whenever possible.  For more information on how to donate time or finances, please go to the American Cancer Society website.
  • My family has four members to it.  Our son, Derek, daughter Breana, husband Michael, and myself.  We are so grateful that our daughter looks a lot like me and our son a lot like his Daddy.  If it were the other way around, it would be quite random!  Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think!

Father & Son                   Mother & Daughter

  • I grew up in a family business.  My Mom and Dad own Sun Glow, Inc., a local heating and air conditioning business.  They provide great work, superior customer service, andfantastic prices.  I am certain that I got my entrepreneurial spirit from my Dad.  He worked really hard, but always made time for us as a family.  I try to mimic that as much as I can.
  • I was the captain of Centennial High School's dance team in high school and a cheerleader in college at Willamette University.  I am certain that these facts are what make me so flexible even still today.  How many 34 year old peoples can still do the splits, after all??

So, there are a few more things about Meme that you probably did not know.  Perhaps you have an idea now as to why I am the way that I am.  Why I am who I am.  Why I believe what I believe.  That is, after all, part of what this Meme thing is all about, right??

For my part to keep this chain going, I hereby choose to invite the following into the ring with Meme:

  1. Andrew Trevino ~  This man I know little about, with the exception that my trusted friend, Mr. Alexander Harb thinks highly of him.  I am looking forward to forming my own opinion!  :)
  2. Jeannie Kontis ~  A strong woman (like myself), I must say I am eager to learn new things about her!  Have fun with it Jeannie.   :)
  3. Jennifer Bukaty ~ I know that she recently did a book Meme, but as a fascinating person, she has so much to share with us.  And, Jennifer, I do promise I will get my Book Meme done.  I have the books, but writing the blog as beautifully as you did proves to be a challenge.  One that I am up for, but time consuming nonetheless.  :)

Thanks, Lisa, for bringing me out of my box.  I am normally such a quiet girl (wink, wink)...

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Sarah ~ Love the pictures!  Yes, I do agree that your son looks like your husband, and your daughter looks like you.

Glad you recovered from that accident.  I can't even imagine how you were feeling yourself, plus worrying about your son and if he was okay.

Thanks for sharing a little more about yourself!

Kathy ~  You are welcome, and thank you for your comment!  You were the first one!  It would be fun to give prizes for that, huh??  Anyway, yes, the accident was a sickening feeling.  Derek was only seven months at the time!  As you can see, though, we are all healthy and very happy!

Sarah,  Very interesting.  Wow!  You've been through a bunch.  You would know better, but I think your son has your smile for sure.

Sarah,

Wow, a broken neck? You are truly blessed to have gone through that and lived to tell your tale!! Your family photos look great. Thanks for sharing with us.

I guess I'll have to get to work on my own MeMe now. My last one was met with some mixed reviews. LOL

Marc ~  Thanks for commenting!  Derek is my little angel.  I would be happy to hear he has my smile.  I wish though, that I had his dimples!  And yes I have been through a bunch, but I like to tell myself that it is what has made me strong and who I am!  :)

Andrew ~ A broken neck...it is a true story.  When they first told me that it was broken, I was surprised.  My parents always told me that if you broker your neck you would be paralyzed at best.  When I questioned the neurosurgeon about it, his response was that I was a miracle, and although rare it does happen...only with a miracle.  It sure increases your faith that there is a God who loves us!

As for the family photos...yes I am blessed with a beautiful family to be sure.  And by "Beautiful" I mean the inside!

Sarah,

My wife is a breast cancer survivor and she too campaigns for the cause!

You are correct.... son looks like dad.... daughter looks like mom... what a good looking family.

And a broken neck... wow.  Your really are a true miracle and sure makes you appreciate the small things in life and how precious every moment is!

Thanks for memeing (is it ok to verb it?)

Elizabeth ~ Thank you so much!  The feeling si mutual, my friend!  You are absolutely correct, there are a lot of people who do not get that miracle they pray for.  It always breaks my heart.  I know what an answer to prayer feels like, but in losing my Dad, I know what it feels like to not have our prayers answered...in the way we want them to be.  It is much easier to say "thy will be done" than to accept it permanently!  Thank you for stopping by as always!  :)

Sarah, you not only did it, you did it wonderfully!  Your joy in life and your family shines through in that smile of yours, which is why I tagged you to begin with :)  I'm so glad that you were able to come through your accident and be here with us today!

Lisa ~  What nice things to say!  I am blessed to have newer friends like you and old friends who have helped me through some of my toughest moments.  When I broke my neck, my oldest friend in this world Alicia (Walker) Muhlestein came to my aid.  She drove an hour each way to pick my children and I up and take care of us at her house while we all had a major case of the flu. She had children of her own and they all got sick after we left.  She never said a word about it, but we have been friends since I was two and she was four.  I still love Alicia so much and know that we would both be there in an instant for one another!  Sorry...had to give Alicia a quick shout out...  :)

You are right...I have a lot of joy.  I figure that the alternative is not a good way to live...so even when I might feel down, I can find something to look at with optimism.  I wish I could share it with everyone else, though.  I see so many sad people in the world.  I smile and they just look so stinkin' sad.  Maybe we can come up with a plan.  Perhaps if we all had 100 pairs of shoes...  ;)  I am pretty close to you on that one, I must admit!

Anyway, thanks for the tag and the challenge.  It is always nice to be a bit introspective!

Sarah, it's in the smiles!  Gorgeous family.  Your son looks like he came through his side of the ordeal well.  I hope that is true.  I had to throw up when I was strapped to a hospital bed once.  Yucky memory.

I'm glad Lisa tagged you (she threw a shoe at me).  Next time, we want to hear some quirky thing -- it can still be joyful!   I'm going to go try to do the splits, now.  I know a sweet person like you will come help me if I can't get up.....right? ;-)

Sarah, what a remarkable story you have to tell!  I'm so glad everything turned out okay for all of you.  And it sounds like your best friend is a Godsend to take care of you like that!

Okay -- I'm off to work on my Meme.  I was worried that I didn't know what to write - but I think I might have a book half done instead!

Sarah,

Thanks. It is icky losing a parent at a young age, but sometimes we have no control over what life dishes out to us...only how we choose to handle it. If life was easy and we had no challenges, we would be boring people  :)

Cheryl ~  Very true.  In my college philosophy class, we decided in conversation that if we only had good, we would have no reference for how great good really was!  Plus, if we allow those hard moments to be teaching moments (or days, or weeks, months, years, etc.), we will be much better off and infinitely stronger!  :)

Sarah,

I just listed your second meme in my alphabetical meme list.  Thanks for letting me know.

Splits?  I could never do them, then again, I never wanted to! ;)

Take care,

Lucky :)

Very impressive to still be able to do the splits! Never have been able to do them and even thought I was short and people tried to get me in to gymnastics when I was young that was one thing that I could never do. Balance beam, cart wheels and that kind of stuff no problem. Splits just weren't in me despite coaches trying. I quit gymnastics at the ripe old age of 6, just didn't enjoy it! Baseball, that was what I enjoyed!

Todd...

I suspected that you were a baseball fan!  :)  What position did you play?  I was never good at softball.  I think I caught a pop fly once and it was so unusual that we went out for ice cream at the DQ in Welches.  That was where the game was...

I guess we cannot all be good at the splits...or baseball!  :)  Hope you are doing well and as always, good to hear from you!
