Opportunity Vs. Distraction

    DEFINITIONS:

Opportunity: A good fit for your goals/passions

Distraction:    Something that MIGHT be an opportunity in the future

   COMPARISONS:

  • Scarcity vs Abundance

  • Choosing vs Avoiding Consequences

  • Proactive vs Reactive

EXAMPLE: Jane saw an opportunity to save money when the homes magazine that she got the best results from called her with a cheap, space available rate on an additional page. Robert was distracted by a 50% off sale onsome direct mail cards that were not part of his marketing plan

KEY POINT: When you evaluate whether something is an opportunity or a distraction, you must know how it fits with what you are committedto. A distraction for one person may well be an opportunity for another.

BENEFIT: You become willing to distinguish the distractions and let go of them,. As you do, more opportunities that fit your needs can show up.

COACHING ACTIONS: Your time is your most valuable commodity. Where are you being distracted? As new customers appear, ask yourself  if they represent an opportunity or a distraction. Let go of or refer all that don't fit your ideal client profile. Consider with each new marketing decision, if it fits your plan for the year.

Joeanne...What a nice way of seperating the two...I finally did get a way of evaluating the difference...I break most things into 2 categories, then those into two more....And most importantly I plan for my most productive time early in the day...every morning has productive activities lined up...Appointments, actual meaty stuff, and the rest of the day I allow flexibility...Less stress for me, and OH YES, giving away the distractions has been a real life saver too. That is a whole post in itself!!
