Sunday Orchids and Shayna- What's Blooming at Your House?

It was a beautiful early morning and we were enjoying our coffee on the porch. The birds were calling to each other, an owl was out there chomping on a toad when we first went out. A hawk stopped by to say hello. A turkey ran through the yard, and the hummers visited their feeders every few minutes. I love those kinds of mornings when you can relax and enjoy nature.

We have several orchids blooming right now which is always a joy. The first one has a heavenly scent.

Purple Orchid

These are Craig's babies....

I just get to enjoy and photograph them.

Orchid

The white one got beat-up by a rain storm the other night but she's still pretty.

White orchid

And this is my baby - having her morning coffee :)

Shayna Weidman

I think she's waiting for the hummers to come back. There is a feeder right outside and she loves to watch them.

We love it when we have a day that we don't have to rush out, and we can enjoy the morning peace and quiet.

Toni,  Those are just so beautiful.  I have some fake ones in my office that have no scent.  Go figure.  My thumb is anything but green I'm afraid!

Toni~ What a beautiful way to start the day.  I have an orchid that I got as a gift when I was in the hospital.  I don't know much about caring for them and I'm afraid I've killed mine.  It still has 2 green leaves, but no flowers.  Not sure what to do.

Belinda - I'm sure you could grow them but I don't know if they would e okay in your climate.

Donna - Orchids don't bloom very often; sometimes just once or twice a year. If you don't overwater, it's hard to kill them. They only need about a 1/4 of a cup once a week or 10 days. They are really an air plant.

Gorgeous orchids, Toni. Yes, calm, easy going mornings are the best. We don't get hummingbirds here in Delaware until around April 20. Enjoy them for me! I love seeing them.

JoAnn - we love the hummingbirds and enjoy watching them; will do a lot of it for you.

Alexandra - Craig says thank you.  The lovely Myrl is very knowledgeable and I'm glad to know the name. I'll head over to the big G and find out more about them. And, yes, I am an Ambassador now. There isn't any formal announcement so you didn't miss it.  And, as I'm sure you know, you are one in mine. Thank you.

Anna - Cats seem to know how to manipulate us very well. I know Sasha and Shayna do a great job in our house. Craig does have tha special green thumb--thank you.

I think Florida is a little ahead of us in the blooming season.  But currently, I have geraniums, lavendar, impatiens, and crocus in bloom in my yard.  I love the cat.  I once had a cat marked just like that one.  Her name was "Cleocatra" because of the little "makeup" lines coming out of the corner of her eyes.

William - Shayna gets decaf - she doesn't need any extra caffeine :) Actually she doesn't get any and wouldn't want it.

Myrl - that's a cute name for a kitty. They are very Cleopatra-like, aren't they?

Silvia - I didn't think Dogwoods would grow here. I would love one.

Jennifer - glad you started the week with a smile! Thanks.

Toni, such gorgeous orchids. Shayna is precious as well. It is a little chilly today and too cool to be out on the deck, but look forward to having our breakfast out on the deck soon.
