Competition Bureau Recommends Changes

The Competition Bureau has released its report studying self-regulated professions in Canada, i.e., accountants, lawyers, optometrists, pharmacists and real estate agents.

Among the many recommendations, the Bureau suggested:

  • More uniform education and experience for broker registration, across the various provincial/territorial jurisdictions.
  • Increasing mobility between jurisdictions.
  • Limiting advertising restrictions to protecting consumers from false/misleading advertising.
  • And in Ontario, allowing services to be priced as a combination of a percentage and fixed amount, as opposed to one or the other.

Morning Anthon,

Wow, this is news to me.  There is actually a Bureau of Competition in your country?  Interesting.
