Top sales professionals consistently overcome challenges and embrace opportunity... It all begins with a focused plan, the right mindset and the willingness to learn and implement systems and strategies that will help propel them to the next level in their businesses.

At the dawn of this New Year, let's commit to embracing the opportunities before us and accept challenges as the competition eliminators that they are.

To that end, consider business networking as an effective means of developing a "Positive Word of Mouth Marketing Strategy."

  • Would you agree that aside from repeat business referrals are a preferred source of business?
  • Would you also agree that making a favorable first impression is important?

If you answered yes to the above, let's focus on the introduction... Here's the scenario: You're in a room full of people, such as a Chamber mixer or similar business networking opportunity, how do you present yourself, with the objective of meeting new people and expanding your sphere of influence?

The key to effectively conveying your message is make it clear, concise ant to keep the introduction to 60-seconds or less. To that end consider the following "Anatomy of an Effective 60-Second Introduction."

An effective 60-second introduction consists of 5 sections. Each section is designed to allow you to share specific information about your and your business.

Section 1 | Introduction (18 seconds) includes the following...

  1. Name.
  2. Your position and company name.
  3. Overview of products and services offered.
  4. What type of clients you're currently working with.

Section 2 | Tell a Story (20 seconds)

What makes you different from your competition? Share something specific that exemplifies this point.

Section 3 | Ask for the Business (10 seconds)

A good referral for me is [be very specific]

Section 4 | Call to Action (5 seconds)

So if you see/hear/know of - Please give him/her my card.

Section 5 | Memory Hook (7 seconds)

Conclude with a memory hook and repeat your name and company.

That concludes "Anatomy of an Effective 60-Second Introduction" we hope you found this post useful.

Nice post. I have never stopped to think about how much can be presenting while networking in a 60 second time frame!

Hi guys,

Very constructive and helpful!  I will definitely use this to construct a more concise elevator (even though I don't like heights) pitch.
