33 Comments on Stepping Up On A Stool...I Had No Idea What You Saw!
Kathy - so true! Preparing a house for sale is like organizing a symphony...everyone has to be in place and all have to play in harmony. :-)
Kathy, so very true and a good reminder for us all to look at life and situations and our jobs from the other persons perspective. Have a great Monday my friend.
Kathy, so true! We all approach the sale of a home from different perspectives. It's part of our job to help the seller see it from the buyer's perspective while respecting the seller's.
Perception, perception, perception...love the "step on the stool' analogy.
How true is that! I experienced it first hand yesterday while changing my window treatments for a "summer" look. But I must admit, I didn't stop to think it trough. You just put the thoughts in what I saw!
Kathy, great post. Too often we forget to consider how a situation looks to parties other than ourselves.
BarbaraT-It’s something we’ve always been told.. to see things from the other’s point of view but we all get so busy we forget. Thanks for the suggest.
Leslie-very good point. How often is what we think we saw really what actually was!
Dorie-I think it would be a good exercise for children... to teach them. Thanks for the suggest.
Barbara- absolutely. We’re all human and it’s natural to see things from our own perspective.
Josh- thanks
John- try as we might, it’s not that easy to remove our own perspective from what we think.
Joe- As a Stager it helps me see what the seller is going through and why they are so attached to some of their things.
Lisa- Thank you and hope your week is a great one. Yes, if we can learn to see what others are seeing, it makes our interaction with them a lot easier.
Michael- that’s excellent. It’s like when you walk down your street in your neighborhood instead of riding in your car. You see your neighbor’s yard, etc from a whole different angle.
BLiz- for sure. The seller is looking at his home through his eyes and he’s comfortable with that.
BARFF- Please thank Ilene!!!
Craig- ok... you have outdone yourself. Where in the world did you find that??????
Bryan- think about being a parent... seeing things from your child’s point of view!
Susanna- I think that it’s a wise manager/ boss/trainer/leader who can see things from everyone’s perspective.
John-and a very happy Monday to you. I think some of the wisest people I’ve ever known were those who could see things from different perspectives.
Janice- very true... and that can often be so hard!!
Nancy- same here! LOL... I actually did break out my paper towels and cleaner to get the top of the fridge.
Wendy- what’s funny is that I was actually standing on a stool and looking around.
Lydie-I think I was just kind of bored and feeling goofy.
Chris-exactly. We can save ourselves some headaches if we did.
Kathy
One great gold star post, thanks for sharing your insight.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Lou- Many thanks. And thank you for all of your support!
Kathy,
What a great post. I certainly agree with your post totally. We get blinded to the emotion at times and forget to stop and think before we speak sometimes. Your article made me think about what I will say in the future when I need to be blunt but spare any hurt feelings.
And of course buyers see it altogether different as well! Great post, Kathy.
Hi Kathy--I love it. You are writing one amazing post after the other these days. And you are 100% right--life is all about who is viewing it and the experiences, beliefs and preconceptions they bring with them. There are no "stubborn" sellers or "picky" buyers--and the world is much more peaceful when we understand other points of view.
Morning Kathy while I try to look at things objectively I in realty see things in a black/white condition. The property is either wright or wrong for my client. Trying to see things in color and it's coming around but it is a slow process
Oh how very true. It is a discipline to learn, i.e. seeing it from others point of view. Example: The buyer may see the home inspection from one viewpoint but the seller many times sees it as an invasion
Kathy, so true... how many times we hear from our clients "I didn't think about using it this way". All it takes is the open mind. Suggested.
Kristin- well we all have and understand our own point of view better than others!
Beth- oh yes... they're often seeing what isn't rather than what is.
Marianne- oh yes... one of my clients really loved her leopard wall in the entry and could only see it through her eyes.
Janet- thank you for your kind words. I think some of the people I admire the most are those who pass not judgments and can accept another person's point of view.
James- that's natural... there are a lot of who have a hard time seeing the gray but it just takes time and practice.
Doug- absolutely. The buyer sees all of the things that are wrong with the property as a criticism perhaps while the buyer is seeing all of the obstacles that will interfere with their new home.
Anna- absolutely. Stagers can bring in their eyes which will see their house from a different perspective.
OOOhhhhh....this is so good! Excellent analogy and great way to build better understanding when dealing with clients. Instead of taking some steps in their shoes, take a peak from their stool!
Sharon- I'd bet you have a better "view from the stool" having just been a "seller" and had to live with having your house being show ready!
