Preparing Your Moving Supplies

What you need to do is to prepare your moving supplies. Supplies you may have on hand include scissors, knife cutter, hammer, screwdriver, markers, newspapers, scotch tape. Additional supplies you will want to purchase include boxes, masking tape, and bubble wrap. Purchase more boxes than you think you'll need before you begin packing. For starters, this avoids your having to run out, mid-packing session, to purchase more boxes. Second, you'll avoid over packing your boxes, which often results in breakage ... both of your precious valuables and your precious back. Nobody wants to end up in traction after a move.

As far as some wrapping material is concerned newspaper is a good choice; just make sure that newsprint isn't rubbing off on fabric or other linens. It's a good idea to wrap anything made of fabric in plastic before you place it in a box. And when using newspaper to package your belongings, wash your hands at frequent intervals so that the newsprint doesn't rub off on your belongings during packing.

It is wise to keep a few items easily accessible when you move. It's a good idea to keep items that you may need while you are moving, or once you get into your new home (and don't want to search through all the boxes). Such items include a hammer, screwdriver, cleaning supplies, extension cords, eating supplies, coffee maker, toothbrushes, and shower items.

Most people just pack everything all together and forget about the things they will need immediately after they arrive in a new house. You avoid such difficulties you'd better pack a box of essentials and label it as such. Take this box with you so that you don't have to track it down when you arrive in your new home. Your "essentials" box will contain such must-haves as toilet paper, paper towels, tape, a local phone book (if you have one for your new neighborhood yet), instant coffee and coffee mugs, bar soap, dishwashing detergent, scissors, pens and paper, a small box of laundry detergent, flashlight, a few bath towels, paper plates, cups and plastic utensils, toothpaste, toothbrush and other toiletries, and aspirin.

The best two things you can do to move easily and without heartbreak is to relax and stop worrying all the time.

Welcome to ActiveRain, Alessia! Good tip on the essentials box, and I would guess it's also a good idea to pack a few favorite kids items in a second box so they can have something familiar with them while the rest of the home is getting unpacked and organized.
