This morning as I logged in to Active Rain, I noticed a comment from Randy Prothero on on of my old posts...What Does Fitness have to do with Real Estate. His comment is what inspires me to write today.

Those of you who follow Randy's blog know that he made a huge accomplishment, he took control of his life and writes Getting back into Shape. His story is amazing and one that will inspire many.

As the New Year is approaching many will make a resolution to start a diet and exercise program. I'm sure this must be the best month for gym membership's across the country! But why wait until then....

When I started my new lifestyle, I learned there is no such thing as a diet. I wasn't really sure what this meant at the time, but until I started making Small Changes, did I realize if I wanted to stay in shape this would be a lifelong commitment.

No longer would I be starting my diet on Monday or making a New Years Resolution every year. It was something that I had to do today, tomorrow and the next day. If you mess up, then pick yourself back up right away, because if you wait it only makes the problem grow...you know what I mean!

I could go on and on about this subject, but I don't want to bore you too much. But why wait....make your next meal a healthy one and why not try a new exercise today!

I promise you will feel good when your done and then you can sit down on your Blogg butt and write about it and post it in  Active Rain Fit Club. You will find many of the stories here will inspire you to keep you on track!

Take care,

I blew it. After going with my client for her home inspection I picked up my husband...met my daughter at the movie theater and we "ate lunch" while watching the movie. Hot dogs, buttered popcorn, nachos with cheese, cokes and two bags of candy between us. There went the diet :)

Suzanne, you hit the nail right on the head on this post.  It is day to day struggle.  Randy's story IS really inspirational.  Great reminder, thank you.

I agree Suzanne.  If something is that important than you should not wait to do it!

Suzanne, you are absolutely correct. Starting to exercise and eat right can "feel" like a huge undertaking. Take small steps at first, simple things like a 15 min walk every other day, drinking juice or water instead of sodas, etc, etc... keep a journal of your progress. Just start.

Sally, Kinda like true confessions here...just make the next meal healthy or better yet I'm sure a nice walk could make you feel better. ;) Hi Monika, You and Jay have a great gym to work out in, makes ya feel good, huh! Hi David, Randy is not "just another pretty face" ya know, he does amaze and inspire! :) Amy, I work out first thing in the morning, then the rest is business. Thanks :) Hi Craig, It has become a way of life, it doesn't happen overnight. Keeping a journal is n excellent way to keep track of your progress. The weight doesn't happen overnight, so taking it off requires patience and disapline. :)

I agree with you Suzanne it takes small changes daily but you will feel SO MUCH better.  It takes a little while to get in the routine but I love going to the gym now.  I have been going to the gym for the last three months and I was told by someone at my gym to watch out because it will be PACKED at the first of the year by all the resolution makers but they assured me that by February probably half of them will clear out and by March things will be back to usual.

I'll agree this month is most likely the busiest for new memberships and January and February typically draw in a crowd.  The masses seem to  thin out drop out a little by spring!

Suzanne...

As you know I went on a mission to find my arse.

I found it and I think I can probably bounce a quarter off of it :)

Can I say that? Too late I already did :)

P.S. Randy's story is nothing short of amazing.

Intersting timing with this Suzanne. As you may remember I had back surgery earlier this year. I now have the Brooklyn Bridge in my spine! Anyway tomorrow my Physio will allow me to use weight machines and the next stage of my road to recovery will begin.

Suzanne - I always thought that by saying "I'll start my diet on Monday" that I was really just procrastinating.  I'm very interested in the AR Fit Club and will become a member today, not Monday!  Thanks.

Target start dates are destined for failure.  When Monday or New Year's rolls around, what happens if that day gets away from you?  Most people decide to start next Monday.  Bad cycle.  I find that the best time to start anything is some random Wednesday whenever the spirit hits me.  With kids, I also work out at the oddest of hours.  6 AM, 1 PM, 11 PM ... whatever.  I'm not screwed just because I miss a prescribed workout time/day.  I'll get it done.

OK Suzanne - I joined the fit club and we will see how this morning goes. I have to confess I'm a little scared of the whole thing. This will be the first exercise I've had since August when I had my surgery. Wish me luck!

Hi Simon,

I can only imagine how hard this must be for you, I have never been in your shoes. My only advice would be to take it slow, listen to your body and go at your own pace...you will be in my thoughts, my freind! :)

OK - I'M ALIVE!! Let's see now - ten minutes on the bike thingy; 20 minutes of stretching assorted muscles; 20 minutes of working on my back muscles and then 20 minutes of being hooked up to this back muscle stimulating machine covered in nice warm blankies - I fell asleep for that one. Next appointment 5pm on Wednesday.

Suzanne - Good advice. There are far too many people that make excuses about why they are overweight. There are many that look for excuses to put things off. You are on the money about gym memberships...the gyms are always crowded right after New Years and then gradually people lose interest. I am like you in that it is part of a routine that I will never give up.

I've been off my running routine for about 3 months now, (various excuses - none good).
I couldn't wait for the New Year.  I had to get back today! 3.5 miles in the snow and it feels great!

Excuses just fill tommorow's schedule, actions free up today's.  Good luck all!

Hi Suzanne, I NEVER make New Year resolutions; however, I occasionally say the word "diet."  I have a 5 pound ceiling, and when I get to that, I get rid of it. It's actually getting "cold" here in Arizona (yeah, I know, not compared to where you are), but I'm still able to find a nice afternoon to play golf and/or walk it off. Furgettabout the gyms......not my style. I don't like having to go anywhere else and get cute outfits to work out. :-)

Hi Suzanne: Yep, the "D" word. Went out to lunch with my l/o today - she was treating to Chinese at PF Changs. LOVE that place. I was good though and ate only "some," not all. That helps. I think you're probably naturally pretty so it wouldn't matter if you had makeup on or not. :-)
