STAY OFF THE ICE!!!!

I was driving past one of our local lakes her in Northern Minnesota.  We still have ice covering many of the lakes.

But, driving around this one lake, I saw 4 kids on the ice with the parents sanding on shore.  WHAT ARE THEY THINKING???

The ice has melted from the shore so the kids had to jump to it.  The ice was never real hard and safe this year anyway.

You would think that the adults would have a bit more sense.

Make your local Funeral Parlor like your Maytag Repair man and STAY OFF OF THE ICE!!!

Someday I hope to lace up the skates again and enjoy some of the lakes and ponds we skated on.  I've been through the thin ice before while a friend and I were going after his dog which had broken through.  The sound of that cracking ice is indelibly locked in my head. Scary!  Letting the kids out there, well, you can guess what I'm thinking Vern.

Vern, since they stopped parents from droping off older kids at the firehouse like they can newborns, parents have a difficult time .  Skating on thin ice may be their only option?  Seriously, I hope you threatened them with Child Protective Services...

I did stop and talk to the adults and was just blown off.  "It's only a couple of feet deep there." 

Well it is deep enough for them to get really wet and cold.

I drove back past 5 min later and everyone was back on shore.

Hey we used to do it, maybe not that dangerous but we used to roll down hills in old tires, cross lakes ob ropes etc.

"What are they thinking?" Obviously, they are not. It doesn't matter if it's deep or not. Bad example. I, personally, don't ever trust any ice on any lake...I won't put my foot on it:)

That's nuts. What are the parents thinking? I hope you bring us more stories from Minnesota. I would be the 'mean' mom on the shoreline fighting with my kid because she would want to be out on the ice and I would be saying NO.
