Builder Concept Homes

According to research conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the market for homes that could accommodate aging-in-place continues to grow as more homeowners choose to remain in their homes as they live out their lives. Recently, NAHB Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists (CAPS) experts were joined by representatives from AARP  for a press conference held at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) to discuss how the aging-in-place market has changed as it moves mainstream, what consumers are looking for and what universal design and aging-in-place trends will be popular in the future.

Nine out of 10 people age 50 and older say they want to remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible. “As the first baby boomers turn 65 this year, CAPS professionals in remodeling and other industries are providing the expertise these families need to stay in their homes safely and in style,” said Scott Sevon, CAPS, GMR, GMB, CGP, 2012 chair of the CAPS Board of Governors. “This generation is typically healthier and wealthier than previous generations of similar age and expects their homes to reflect their active, independent and upscale lifestyles.”

Centerline Homes Emerson International, the developer of Eagle Creek in Orlando, Florida has responded to this burgeoning market by unveiling three models targeted to three distinct age buyers at the 2012 Builder Concept Home Series at the International Builders Show in Orlando in February.
The Concept Home Series, sponsored by Builder Magazine, is an annual showcase that spotlights important shifts in home design, building products and community development.  The 2012 show, dubbed “A Concept for the Ages,” will include three distinct homes, each reflecting the lifestyle needs of a generation, specifically Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y.

“We’re honored to be chosen by the leaders of the national homebuilding industry to build the three concept homes,” said Robert Hutson, President of Centerline Homes’ Central Florida Division. “These are truly new, trendsetting designs for each specific generation. The design team translated the lifestyle needs of each group within the context of a home ranging in size from 2,200 to 4,700 square feet.  Members of each generation will find these homes exciting and innovative,” Hutson said.
