What does it mean to stage a house to sell? Why would one want to stage their house? Whether your house is already on the market or you're planning on selling it soon, I'm going to give you a few helpful tips to help you sell your home quicker and for a better price.

The literal definition of Staging is "any scene regarded as a setting for exhibiting or doing something". *

So, simply put, staging a house is preparing it for exhibition. This does not just mean tidying up and de-cluttering, but also creating an artful illusion. You can do this with your own furniture for free, or pay a professional stager to come in and do this for you.

Research shows that well staged homes sell approximately 32% faster than non-staged homes. They also sell for 3 to 10% more. **

Some ways to achieve this are packing up as much of your personal items, knick knacks, and photos as you can and keep them in storage or, if you must, in the garage. You're going to have to pack these things anyway when you move and it creates a more comfortable atmosphere for the buyers looking at your home. They can envision this as their home instead of feeling like they're trespassing through another person's home.

Take bulky furniture to the storage as well. Minimal furniture makes for a larger feeling room. It also allows people to imagine how they would decorate without being overwhelmed by what's already there. Remember, not everyone shares the same taste in home décor.

Stand at the entryway to each room with an artist's eye and imagine your viewing it for the first time. Does it feel open and inviting? If not, re-arrange the furniture until it does.

In bathrooms, place your best hand towels neatly folded with a ribbon tied around them at sinks. If you have a soaking tub, do the same with a full sized towel and neatly drape it over the side of the tub. Candles and fresh flowers are nice in any room.

If you know someone is coming over to view your home, start a fire in the fire place, put on soft music, light some aroma candles go for a walk and let the magic happen.

Good luck with the successful staging and selling of your home!

This is good information about staging.  However, you forgot to add "Room staged by Lori Matzke, as seen in the Minneapolis Star Tribune" under the before and after photos!  May we assume that you have her permission to use these photos in your blog?
