Good morning Kim. You write well and your post makes the area very appealing. I'll have to visit and see for myself. What do free standing single homes go for?
Kim,
Nice post. I used to live on St. Croix. It was nothing as I had imagined or hoped it would be. Yes, the beaches can be beautiful, but many are thick with litter and others aren't safe places to be without a police escort. The poverty and crime rate is simply mindboggling and eclipses anywhere on the mainland. Yes, it's a spectacular place. Too bad I needed to be off the streets by the time the sun set.
Grant
Grant, that's nothing like my experience here....don't know where you were going to the beach...but certainly not to the beaches I go to! The poverty and crime here are nowhere near as bad as where I came from (Atlanta) and I go out at night in both Frederiksted and Christiansted, many times alone, and am not afraid nor have I ever had any problems.
And Sheila, now you can get a home here for around $200,000. Prices are falling and there are some good buys.
Different experiences for different folks. Glad its working for ya. There is no disputing the fact it is a stunningly beautiful place.
