March in St Croix is one of my favorite times, and this March has been no exception. There is no "comparable" weather in the states...there just isn't.  It's warm here, of course, like always, but not hot.  The breezes are cool, but not cold.  It's simply PERFECT.  I can recall days in the states where I thought the weather was perfect.  But that was before I experienced St Croix perfect!!!

The water is finally starting to warm up a bit too, and it's staying light a little longer so there's time to go for a swim after work.  It's still a little biting when you get in - but your body acclimates quickly and it feels SO refreshing!  I just got a stand up paddle board and have really been enjoying the feeling of being way out in the ocean, and on top of it!  I found myself with a dilemma yesterday of deciding whether to snorkel or paddle - decided to do a little of both!  HEAVEN!  Now if the dolphins had just come around - it would have TRULY been heaven!

If this lifestyle sounds appealing to you, wipe the drool off your face and hop on the MLS!!!  Boy are there some good prices right now!  We are experiencing the "perfect storm" for buying real estate in the VI right now!!  The interest rates are at their lowest, home/condo/land prices are falling, and sellers are very eager to sell and nervous about the economy.....all meaning you can get some FABULOUS deals.

I just listed three condos in the cozy complex called Cruzan Princess yesterday.  The owners have all been here for 20+ years, are getting up in years, and are ready to get off the rock.  Two of these units have been completely remodeled and are very nicely furnished.  The third is clean and bright and ready for you to put your splash of personality on it!  They are small units (two one bedrooms, one two bedroom) with BIG porches and ENORMOUS views.  Prices are $135,000, $154,000 and $175,000 (2 bedroom).  The monthly fees are among the lowest on island and include insurance.  ($1300 - $1500 a quarter)  They are rentable on the short term OR long term market, if you are interested in recouping some of your investment.  Then you could have a nice little place to call home for a week, month, season, or lifetime!  But then, you'd have those daily dilemmas, too.....hummm, snorkel, swim, walk, paddle, row, fish.....

These gems aren't up yet on MLS - so contact me if you are interested.

Good morning Kim. You write well and your post makes the area very appealing. I'll have to visit and see for myself. What do free standing single homes go for?

Kim,

Nice post. I used to live on St. Croix. It was nothing as I had imagined or hoped it would be. Yes, the beaches can be beautiful, but many are thick with litter and others aren't safe places to be without a police escort. The poverty and crime rate is simply mindboggling and eclipses anywhere on the mainland. Yes, it's a spectacular place. Too bad I needed to be off the streets by the time the sun set.

Grant, that's nothing like my experience here....don't know where you were going to the beach...but certainly not to the beaches I go to!  The poverty and crime here are nowhere near as bad as where I came from (Atlanta) and I go out at night in both Frederiksted and Christiansted, many times alone, and am not afraid nor have I ever had any problems.

And Sheila, now you can get a home here for around $200,000.  Prices are falling and there are some good buys.
