There is always a down side to most anything good.
Spring in North branch, Mn brings on the green grass and spring blossoms.
But, it also brings the Moles and Gophers. I am just starting to see some for the signs of these critters coming alive again, but I am ahead of the game.
Moles and Gophers feed on the grubs and insects in your lawns top and sub soils. You can trap and poison them but you never seam to get rid of them. Poison if you have pets can also be a concern.
The better way is to use an insecticide that you spread on the lawn. It kills the grubs and then the critters have nothing to eat so they move on!
When spreading the insecticide, you need to water it some to get it into the soil. This also helps to keep the pets from getting it on their paws and licking it off and ingesting.
There are also many home remedies out there if you talk to any old timer. But, I have yet to find one that really works.
It is your choice on how to handle this problem...but one thing is for sure. Start NOW. Getting behind the '8' ball on this one makes you in a catch up position most of the year.
Moles and Gophers will leave soft ridges and piles of dirt on your lawn. They many times will also kill the grass with their digging.
