For the those of you that are cross country skiers and are looking for a great place to go, look no further than Traverse City! We have the world famous VASA Trail that is not maintained by the DNR. The VASA trail has metal tube money boxes at certain trail head parking lots that you can drop a few bucks in to help maintain the trail. It is voluntary, but it is a system that works. The trail is world class and groomed to perfection. The trail is well marked and there are sections for every skill level and terrain type. So if you love to cross country ski, but do not like cutting your own trail, come check out the VASA trail in Traverse City. You can get up to date Trail Reports at http://www.vasa.org/

Robert- My In laws live in Leigh High Acres, they moved down there 4 years ago to get away from the snow! But for the past 2 years they have come back home in November and stay through Christmas because they miss it and say it is to Hot down there.

Michael, good information. For those looking to camp (yes people do in winter)  Traverse City State Park is one of the few with heated restrooms in the winter.

Thanks for the information Gary I did not know that. The Traverse City State Park is very unique. It is right across from the street from East Bay. You are just a couple miles from Downtown and you feel like your in the middle of a forest. Winter camping is a lot of fun and has its own challenges.
