Bothell house with a pool, understanding the responsibilities

As you are going through the real estate listings you’ll probably come across a Bothell listing with a pool. While the pictures look great and the pool looks warm and inviting, if you’ve never owned a pool before you need to fully understand what you are getting into before making a purchase. Taking care of a pool is a big undertaking and you need to be ready for it.

A lot of people hire pool cleaners to maintain a pool for them. It takes a lot of time to take care of your own pool since you will have to constantly monitor it to see if it needs more chemicals added. As well, you are going to have to understand the chemicals that need to be provided in the pool and how often they need to be added.

If you have to go away for a few days you’ll need to make sure that either a pool company or a friend is maintaining the pool for you. If you don’t, you’ll come back to a green pool. This means that algae have had a chance to form in your pool and this is not good. It’s very difficult to get all of these algae out of your pool to make it clean again.

Your pool will always need to be 100% clean before you are able to swim in it. Otherwise, you take the risk of developing an infection. A dirty pool is a health hazard that you definitely won’t want to swim in.

While finding a Bothell house with a pool can be very tempting, understand exactly what you will be responsible for. You’ll have to make sure that you always have enough chemicals on hand, you will have to get to the store that provides these chemicals to purchase them and then you’ll have to store them safely on your property. You’ll have to have a place to keep them under lock and key if you own animals or have young children.

This does not even take into account the repairs and upgrades you’ll need to make on your pool on a regular basis. This only covers the maintenance part of the water inside the pool. When you have a Bothell house with a pool it will need to be repaired from time to time and equipment will need to be upgraded.

Take some time to really consider whether you are ready to take on the responsibility of owning a Bothell house with a pool before signing any contracts. While owning your own pool is definitely nice, there is a lot of work that goes along with it.

I swam in college and have always wanted a pool.  I do not want an outdoor pool living here in the Boston area.  I would like a glass enclosed on attached to my home.  I know there is work, but I just want one.  Your post is good information on the work involved.

Adrian ~ a house with a pool in the Denver area is a rare find.  I miss pools.  I  was a lifeguard for several years and on the swim team  in high school.

Adrian, pools do take a lot of maintenance, and the security to be sure small kids do not get in unattended.     A green pool does not sound attractive.
