We are in week 4 of the Johnson City 101 classes. Last night was held at the fire hall #3 which is situated right next to the Police station (which was week#2). They really had some great training for all of us. I learned so much about how much training goes into being a fire fighter. Their suits are pretty amazing as well. We had a volunteer who got up there and put on the entire suit, and as she was being dresses, the fire chief was explaining each garment and the price of each piece. Wow! It cost's well over $2000.00, and I quit counting! We also toured the hall, watched a presentation of firefighters repelling down walls, suiting up "speed style" , climbing through small boxes with wires obstructing views and breaking down doors. It was a cool night!! (or should I say hot!).
Cindy, not only are their suits expensive they can be pretty heavy as well. Firefighters put it out there for us and are seldom as appreciated as they should be.
Cindy, we have a huge group of volunteer firefighters/EMTS out here at Fishhawk Lake, which is a godsend, especially in a rural area which is quite far from the closest hospital. As a matter-of-fact, my hubby is the only local paramedic around here and he is on call during the weekends (when he's not home, he spends the week running the largest private EMS company in the state). The gear is heavy as well as expensive. And throwing that stuff on during a hot/humid summer day can be MY WORST NIGHTMARE (as a menopausal gal!)
I commend all of those who put their lives at risk, both firefighters and EMS folks to keep us safe and ALIVE.
Hat's off to these brave souls who go into burning buildings to save lives. Nice post Cindy.
Cindy, Johnson City 101 sounds like an interesting series. You'll have to tell me more about it when I see you!
I know, right!!! We are so lucky for our fire fighters. I have such a respect for them. Especially after this class I took. Not to mention, they really are cute! lol, just had to add that.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I'll keep posting on this class.
