What! No floor plugs?

By

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help. I am preparing a bid for a 5000 sf home. While planning the layout of furniture, I realized that there are NO floor plugs. The formal living room is 16X16 and the family room is 24X28. All the furniture will be "floated" in the center of the room. This means that any lamps on end tables will not have a power source without running cords across the room....which is not an option. What would you place on the end tables instead of lamps? Tall items such as greenery, candlesticks, etc.?? There is good lighting from the overhead lights and lots of windows so lamps are not necessary needed. I certainly do not want to advertise the fact that there are not any floor plugs...of course I'm not try to cover anything up either. Just want buyer's attention on the focal points and there are plenty in this custom home! ANY suggestions would be appreciated!!!!

Thanks!

Wendy - You can't go wrong if you simply accent the focal points, I dont think height -- in and of itself  is absoulutly needed beside a sofa, unless it is to balance out something else. However, When I don't have a light for a place that I want one -- I use greenery instead. I like all your ideas -- and love a large candle in a oversized hurricane vase, then you can have candle glow for pictures, and reflective glass. Make sure the overheads are bright, and you are good to go! - Best wishes!

Wendy, here are two tricks I do.  If I feel I can afford to "lose" the lamp, I'll cut off the cord.  That way you get a lamp without a dangling cord.  Also, lamps are easy to unassemble and remove the cord and replace.  The other trick is to buy candle holders, appropriate size for a lamp shade, and just pop shades on top.  You have to use the kind that have the cross pieces that dip down, not the ones that sit on top of the lamp and screw on the finial.  One of the pictures I posted recently had a lamp in a bedroom that was made just that way.  Problem solved!

Terry:  I was thinking about using the standard candle, books, and small home accent, but you have some fabulous ideas!  In the past, I have just used the lamp with out plugging it in (cord tucked between couch and table), but using a candle stick as a faux lamp base is brilliant!

Hi Terry, Thanks for the ideas.  It is great that we can all learn staging strategies from each other.

Wendy,
I have seen battery operated light bulbs, can't remember where I found them. But I do know they exist!
